Several days ago, our web site was slow at times and was even down temporarily. We now know the cause: Steven Weigang and "JDL Germany" were attacking our web site. Weigang boasted on his Facebook account about how he and his friends engaged in this illegal activity:

Baruch Hashem (thank G-d), we have since strengthened our defenses so that Weigang and his friends cannot attack our site like this any more.
However, this is not the end of the story. With G-d's help, we always seek revenge (in a law-abiding manner) when evil people do something to us. Here is what happened to the precious web site of Weigang and "JDL Germany" when we informed the hosting company of how Weigang and his friends illegally attack other web sites:

I do not know for a fact what his attack consisted of. I suspected a DOS because of the long reply time to any request sent to the server. This is why, in my opinion, it took so long to pull down the pages. Other times it seems that the SMF database was not accessible and this indicated to me that the database server was being flooded.
I never hacked myself, but I know the basics of how to do it. Because I attempt to remain legal and because I work in the industy, it would be very detrimental to my employment to engage in that kind of activity, especially while I am at work.

Added: Ahh, now I see that they have no new posts since august 30. They probably can't add anything to the site. The whole thing should be wiped away.

Maybe they thought it was a problem with the server at first (since it hadn't been updated in a year) so they updated it but then later on realized that it was a hack that caused it...

Yes, I suspect you are right about that. I hope the upgrades will prevent such attacks. I would think that a firewall would be able to prevent some of the DOS attacks. At least one of the attack methods which I used to know can be defeated today with a good firewall. I believe the method was called ICMP ping flooding. It is too complex to explain here but I found out about it by googling ping flooding.

I will have no mercy on Rubin, but I will be furious about the Guzofsky case. I don't know much about what was going on during those days so I will judge him favorably. Chaim also said that we shouldn't give him the ultimate curse (ys"v).
Even if the horrible of all Jews is attacked by Gentiles, we should help him not because we have mercy on him, but because attacking him (as a the Son of G-D) is like to attack G-D's and His people's honor, so for the sake of G-D and the nation we should not be happy about this generally (though, I wouldn't be sad to see Rubin getting raped and slayed by Negroes).

I personally would not consider a DOS attack to be hacking. My definition of hacking is compromising a system and stealing information or changing content.
Yes, muman, a good firewall should help prevent these types of attacks but there are possible ways around that which I will not go into here.
As for server updates, they really do need to be applied on a regular basis. Chaim, is the jtf.org server(s) under your direct control or do you depend on the hosting company to apply updates and patches?
Either way, this site is actually in a uniquely advantageous position since it purposely goes offline every Friday evening. It would be the perfect opportunity to apply any outstanding updates. Yes, I know, it would have to be done during Shabbat but maybe you could find a gentile at the hosting company who could do it. :)

FYI, there are still problems. This is the first time in 3 days I have been able to access the forum. I tried all day long today and sent a message to several members at other places. Even once I got on, I was not able to post a message on here. I am still getting error messages and also it takes a LONG time to even get to the login page.

Actually I did not think that at all,I simply asked him a question that only with somebody with smicha or learning for smicha or who has actually learned a yeshiva could know & I did so to show him what a fraud he is.

I hope that he gets the help he needs to function in society one day, but we shouldn't focus so much on him because he's really not that important to JTF. Sometimes I pray for him and the other anti-JTFers that they turn into good people.

I really do think that weigang is not the main 'brain' behind all the DOS attacks and anti-JTF videos. I also think that that JDL Ahlen blog that appeared some time ago with the fake anti-JTF meeting was the work of marbus and rosenberg.
They just know how to use that imbecile weigang for their own means.

Otherwise.....why would any sane, half way intelligent person have such a problem with this site?

He tried to hack into this site, and into individual accounts of registered members. But I think Weigang is just a comic relief more then a problem. One thing you should take seriously, is protect your account here as well as email, facebook etc. with a strong password. That's a good general practice and the reality is that attempts have been made to hack into accounts here (I know my account was subject of such attempts).

I am always careful with my accounts. I check periodically at several sites based in Russia where you can put in your login and password and they will tell you whether or not it has been stolen. They do the same with credit cards, checking accounts, etc. I regularly check all my accounts to be safe......

I didn't know he was a Gentile,now I know,but the questions I asked him he could not answer which proves he's full of sh*t.
Even a deformed or CONservative "rabbi " couldn't answer what I asked him only somebody with smicha,learning for smicha or have learned in a yeshiva could answer.

Why don't we ask him how he magically became a a kohen... Considering he goes by the name Cohen now. Why are other Kahanist groups ok with someone leading a JDL branch who pretends to be a Jew and a Cohen? Isn't that basis to shun his group? I mean, there is nothing wrong with being a Gentile supporter of Kahanism but why pretend to be a Cohen? A 20 or 21 year old cohen gadol rabbi, can you imagine that.
I remember the story of a convert who moved into a religious community and started posing as a Levite- he even changed his last name to something Levy, got a respected position in the community, got the second Aliyah just like a Levite. When his play was up, he was is trouble for his deception.
