A 7.62 of coarse. The only .50 cal in service in the west is the M2HB Browning. It has a slotted barrel guard. That thing in the chopper door is an M60....yes an M60. NZ still uses that old stuff. It's "fighter wing" of its airforce consists of 6 old A4 Skyhawks....YES, Vietnam era Skyhawks.

50 cal?
You bet ;) Has a kick to it ^-^ I love the Navy, I am always a salty in my soul O0
That wasn't a .50 cal! It's an M60. Look at the bipod and barrel. Besides, they've never mounted .50s in Aust/NZ choppers.
Its a .50 cal and it was mounted due the boarding execrise was with the US Navy as well.
I know I was the one you took the pic.

You don't know your weapons from a hole in the ground, girlie. Look at the pics and compare. The MG in the Helo is an M60 GPMG with an AA type rear sight.

It used .50 cal ammo, how can this be? ^-^ As far as I am aware you can't interchange the cals.

IT CAN'T FIRE .50 Cal AMMO!!!!!!!!
An M60 is 7.62 x 51 mm NATO!! Firing .50s from it would be like firing .570 Nitro express elephant rounds out of a .22.
This is the ONLY weapon in existance in any western defense force capable of firing the .50 Cal Browning HMG round. There are NO other types:

The one in the RNZN chopper aint it!

:::D Newman stop getting your kinkers in a knot over it.
ROFLMFAO now I am not gonna tell you what cal the bullet is I saved ;D
Moving on with the thread now. 8;) :::D

It wouldn't matter what interchangable barrels they made for an M60 (and there aren't any). The .50 cal (seen on the far right of this pic) is over 5" long. A 7.62 NATO round (M60 round) is only half that. The middle round in this pic is a 30-06 (.30 M1) which is 12mm longer than a 7.62 NATO. As you can clearly see, the .50 cal would never fit in an M60's reciever.

I concur wth newman, im practicly a weapons expert. That is a M60 and NOT a .50 cal. Thinking its a 50 cal is wishful thinking nothing more.

Newman I know that :::D
Thats why I leave things to the grunts. And my Batman to do :::D
Geez I so going to miss having someone make my coffee. :-\

Yes.
.30 cal M1 was the 30-06 (7.62X63mm) Used in the M1 Garand and the M1919 Browning MG and BAR.
.30 M1 Carbine was the little carbine round for the M1 and M2 carbines.
It gets confusing sometimes.

cool thanks, I love the looks on that MG.

The Browning?

I split this topic so you can continue to talk about weapons and I can upload more pics on the other, so we don't mix the topics up. ;)

not so sure if its the browning I'm talking about. Since American weapons in general are ugly, overestimated and shortlived.
No offence but thats the truth.
My father bought an AK-74 and he asked the shopowner, how long the warranty lasted and he said "Armageddon"

I never liked 'spray and pray' assault rifles. Can't shoot well at all.
Better off with a Mauser.
Old poem:
A pistol by the bedside, a shotgun by the door, a 30-06 to reach out and touch.........you don't need no more.
