I know this may not have anything to do with women of valour but I was wondering if anybody here is interested in desinging?
-
I have no problem I wear green , green and green.
But agree some fashions are shocking.
-
I think its a good topic, it is the female influence section. I think I'm terrible when it comes to fashion and clothes. I mostly hate it how colors keep changing for spring, summer, winter etc...WHO in the world decides what is fashionable or not? Anywho, if it fits and looks good-I'll wear it!
Because I am BAD at fashion, I can't design, I only designed a dress once, it looks pretty good. I wish I could be better at it. So you like designing? That's cool!
Fashion is one of the biggest influences in todays world.
It starts with ordinary people and is caught on by either companies or the nation. Usually celebrities, who are thought to be fashion gurus, create trends. There are specialists who are trained to predict the next upcoming trend and sell their research to shops.
Yes, I like designing a lot :). I make quite a lot of clothes and used to sell jewelry. Dress tops are the easiest to sew and design. You should always wear belts with them. :)

Green is always a good colour to wear as long as its not neon. ;D

...WHO in the world decides what is fashionable or not?
A bunch of Italian guys in Rome. Or is it a bunch of French guys in Paris? :-\

You'd be surprised. Catwalks usually take place in milan or paris, but thats probably more to do with the location.
The real designers, who have become multi-millionaires usually start of rather humble. Laura Ashley got her start as a secretary. Ralph Lauren was born into a middle-class family who lived in Bronx and used to by suits with his pocket money at age 12. He is now one of the richest and most famous designers in the world.

Yes I do it is been apart of my life for a long time now, and since we don't really get a choice of clothes I tend to live with it.

Nice topic! I like classic clothes.
-
I don't think fashion sense is following trends - I think it's finding the style which you are most comfortable with and fits well.
I bet you have a lot of fashion sense Mills - you just don't make a profession out of following trends. ;)
-
Lately I've become a very big fan of Talbot's. They have good classic outfits, and they have amazing sales.

More like clever Jewish textile moguls who make millions and laugh fit to bust at stupid sheep who get 'told' what to wear by magazines.

Sarah, you're a brilliant, gifted young woman who could do anything. O0
PS: I already told you how to get a start in the fashion industry, but you won't listen to Uncle Newman. :-X

ahhhh....you young JTFers don't have any idea of fashion. If you wanna be hip in the UK all you need is to wear these threads:

Ah so they ALL get blue as a status thing! They should make orange, I just think it would look funny.
I would look like a big pumpkin :::D
Some are up to $1000 :-\ they are the silk jobs.
They have embossed patterning too.
Yup I was bored many times in th UAE and I went window shopping with Mostafa hanging back in the rear going "Oh no boss lady please don't touch that, oh no boss lady you can't go in there" I was tempted to push him under a truck ;)
He was a barrel of laughs I could tell you :-\

Mills do you cover your hair?
-
Mills do you cover your hair?
Not yet, but I will when I get married. ;)
With what? do you have scarfs you like?
-
what is that a light weight cotton? Or a fine netting?
-
You are so right it does look a little off. Reminds me of the 1940's war years.
-
I saw once a very fine netting made with gold and silver threads it was in that shape the woman had light golden blonde hair it was first class. Some are just beautiful.
Not that I would ever wear it. But I like looking at some of them.
-
This is the only fashion sense I'll ever have ---->
I think its very nice ! Reminds me of the old biblical times.
-
Yes it does classic outfits never change.

Armani, Valentino, Versaci, Tacchini and Prada. ;D
-
What about that flaming German queen, Karl Lagerfeld who designs for Chanel?
-
Of course! I already have some scarfs now that I'm saving for later use. I also shop at a place that sells tiechels and other types of modesty items:
I like the following:
I could also wear hats (like a nice lady like french beret) and snoods although I'm picky when it comes to snoods, some are weird looking. I would not wear wigs though.
You should wear a sheitel! They are much better halachically speaking as as hair does not show as much and it makes the women who wear them look better they've ever looked in their lives!
It's also the Chabad thing to do and I know you like Chabad.
-
What's a sheitel?
-
Sometimes these scarves can end up looking ratty. I saw one woman wearing a pinkish one. It looked all dull and faded.
-
Those wigs are really expensive, althoughthey are beautiful and every woman I know in Chabad wears them. The first time I saw one, I was wowed! But I don't know if I could wear one. I had some unpleasantness once with a wig I had to wear a few years ago for a few months (bad haircut >:()
lol I had a few of those haircuts before.
Once I turned my hair orange by mistake :::D
-
A lot of somalians also wear what you call "snoods".
-
A lot of somalians also wear what you call "snoods".
That's even more of a reason to be against it.
I know its a commandment for Jewish men to wear a hat and not shave to a certain point but whats the reason behind it?
-
A lot of somalians also wear what you call "snoods".
A lot of races do.
Here many women from Europe do it, and the stupid misinformed public take them as Muslims.

I'm not a fan of Sheitels. They don't let other people know that it's not really their hair, and as you said, "it makes the women who wear them look better they've ever looked in their lives," which I don't think is right. Also, I go to a Chabad Shul and I don't think any of the women, except for maybe the Rebbetzin (although I've seen her wear a snood also), wear Sheitels.
