Shalom all
December 16th, is a very important day for Boers. It was the day that the Boers had a gelofte (im not sure what the english word is) with G-D. The Boers asked G-D, that he will protect them, and especially in the battle to come. The Boers would become staunchly religious(they already were at that point-and throughout their history), and would build a monument in honour of G-D.
Soon, the battle of Blood River began. And it was confirmed, G-D was with his people the Boers.
A monument was soon built in Pretoria (voortrekkermonument)-which was a great monument. I could see the monument very clearly tens of miles away, and still see it clearly from my house!
Up to this day, the Boers have remained as loyal and fearing to G-D.
Every 16th of December, the Boers hold a religious and national day. Gelofte Dag. Thanking G-D for protecting and having mercy to his people
So that was just a very quick introduction. On Sunday, it's the 16th, Gelofte Dag.

So, i was thinking, mayby JTF can do some video or speech on it? I think it will greatly strenghen the Jewish-Boer ties, and i think we can get some more supporters and members! But also, it will show the struggling Boers, that they re not alone, and not everyone is against them, and I think it will give them some great energy and hope.
Please JTF, let's see what we can do?
Any ideas?
I was thinking mayby JTF can make a video about the history of the day, the holiday, and then the part where JTF supports the Boers?

Gelofte = vow, covenant
Anyway, that sounds like a lekker idea. As an American, how could I observe Geloftedag?

Hello Hail
I guess the plan is a white elephant :-\
Well, it's really quite a religious day you know. Therefore, the best way I think is a day between You and G-D. Read the Bible/Torah, and pray to G-D, consult to him your ideas and plans-and also, a day of patriotism.
As someone that does not believe in Christmas and easter, Gelofte Dag is the day of the year, that means most to me. You know what I mean-it includes country, nation and above all, G-D. So ja.
So Hail, are you American? I must say, ive always been confused by your country of origin. Dutch, Rhodesian, South Africa, american or Columbian? :D
Anyway, im going to ty and find my thing i wrote about Gelofte Dag, and then ill post it on the forums ;)
Dankie Hail, and G-D bless

I'm a native-born American, I know some Dutch, and my user name is from an old American patriotic song.
