Title: Shas Bill To Face First Vote
Post by: admin on February 27, 2008, 03:52:18 AM
Shas Bill To Face First Vote

(IsraelNN.com) A bill sponsored by the Shas party that seeks to limit access to pornography, gambling, and violence on the Internet will face its first Knesset vote on Wednesday.  The bill would require those who wish to access websites with gambling or pornography to request access from their Internet provider.  Shas has not provided a list of the specific sites that would be blocked under its proposed law.

The bill is one of three issues seen as a potential way to mollify Shas and keep it in the coalition despite the Palestinian Authority’s insistence that Israel and the PA are negotiating over Jerusalem.  Coalition MKs are reportedly working to enlist a majority to vote for the bill.

Even though it sounds like the kind of thing that would be good, keeping people from looking at porn, etc. who is to say what is considered to be porn? In Saudi Arabia a picture with a woman brushing her hair might be porn.

I think the internet should stay free.

They could ban Kahanist sites next and then where would JTF be in Israel?

It shouldn't be like that. It should be like when the citizen asks to ban the site, not the opposite. That's my opinion.

Good move definitly. Who would have the Chutzpa to call someone asking to be able to view that sht? These things destroy many people, including young people who wouldn't be able to log on because of course their parents wouldn't do these things (but actually you never know with some of those idiots, but majority of course wont), also gambling destroys many families, sometimes also becaue of young people, and in Israel you can be in debt forever, their isn't the Bankrupcy laws that their are here. So definitly its the right thing to do.
About what is concidered porn- I think its obvious, anyone naked at the very least (thats what I think they are aiming at the minimum, but in Halacha its stricter, but if this is done its good enough.)
