Title: Should only English-speaking people live in the United States?
Post by: TruthSpreader on June 17, 2008, 07:16:59 AM
I think if you don't speak a word of English then you should be deported back to your country. I don't care which country you came from. In America, you must learn English or else.

Agreed.  O0

English is a great language and I am proud, that I have learned it!

English is important for all righteous people, not only for those in the Anglo-Saxon world!   :)

I agree!
The current English speaking and writing exam to become a  citizen is a joke... most people who pass it don't even know how to read and write properly in the native tongue and yet they become validated by the world super power.

English all the way.  I used to work retail, and let me tell you, when I had to deal with Asians or whomever who spoke their country's language and spoke little to know English, it took all I had not to throw them threw the wall. >:(

I answered yes, because there's nothing wrong with immigration otherwise none of us would be here, but as Americans we shouldn't have to knock ourselves out to learn other languages. Our relatives worked their tails off to become true Americans by working hard, educating themselves, learn about their surroundings including the english language.

This is along the lines of my point of view as well.      Any adult who legally wants to become a U.S. citizen needs to demonstrate that he or she is capable of communicating in English at a high school level or beyond.

Illegal immigrants should be removed from the country immediately unless they have a prison sentence to complete first.

Yes, this is an English speaking nation, and English is part of our culture.

However, we are also a nation of immigrants, so it is acceptable in my eyes if you only know enough to get around.

At one point my great-great Grandparents didn't speak english. But they came to this great country anyway! I am grateful for that.

Eventually, they learned.

Europe..but that's not the point..Europe has had their fair share of evil and hurt to the Jewish people...

I would accept any immigrant who truely loves the USA and loves this place and wants to contribute to society.  I reject any immigrant who is evil and hates the USA.

I think that only English-speaking people should be allowed the right to obtain citizenship in the United States.  If the people of Puerto Rico don't like it, since they are automatically American citizens by virtue of being born on American territory, and since only half of them living there speak English, they can declare independence and be their own country.

It's gotten to the point where you can't ever get your order right driving through McDonalds, because noone there speaks English. Just down right un-American.

Yeah I know you have to speak slowly so they can understand and yet they still get it wrong and some of the people have such a heavy accent you dont know what the hell they are saying.

   Yes. Yes. Yes.

If someone wants to learn another language for intellectual purposes let them do that. If they just don't want to learn English let them leave. New York State should get rid of the Spanish high school regents exam and make students study another language instead for their foreign language requirement. When I took high school Spanish level 1, I was in a class full of native Spanish speakers and my teacher expected me to know as much as them.

It used to be French. My problem with French is that it is not Phonetic. They should modify French and teach a Phonetic version instead.

The school I went to a lot of kids wanted to learn German or Portuguese or Italian but the stupid principle said we have no money which was a bald face lie he had enough money to spend 7 million dollars on equipment for each class but they could not update the second language course

Yes, they must be free to use the language they like best, but they must understand English. English is necessary everywhere in the world, it's a joke to allow an American citizen not to learn it. ( except native Amerindians who were first in America)

If you live in AMERICA you should learn the language. I am a first generation American, my grandparents came here from Italy and learned the language. We learned Italian from our parents when we were kids, but we were only allowed to speak it at family gatherings and at home.
My Grandparents struggled to learn english because America was their new home, they respected it. I think that if you live in this Country, you should respect it. The problem is nowadays, Immigrants are too lazy to learn or teach their own kids english, so our Politically correct government caters to them and starts federally funded programs that cost us taxpayers billions. The money would be better spent for programs that teach english. It is their obligation to adapt to their New Country.
