Title: Yusef Islam aka Cat Stevens and the spiritual death which islam causes
Post by: zachor_ve_kavod on August 14, 2008, 06:54:34 PM: As a musician, one of the greatest disappointments to me was the conversion of Cat Stevens to islam. I grew up listening to his music. I found his voice and his lyrics tremeandously comforting. And then he gave it all up to join that hate filled religion, which espouses anti-Semitism, hatred of the west, hatred of women, hatred of gays, and which preaches a convert or kill approach.

I don't know if anyone else liked his music, but I did. I still listen to some of his early works on the computer and it reminds me what can happen when people choose the dark side.

Does anybody know of any other conversions like this, which they found disappointing?

Some of them I would say good riddance. Wonder if they understand it is a death sentence to get out.

I guess he got on a "Peace Train" to the Religion of Pieces... HAHA..

Cat Stevens was a good musician, but he is dead now...

I did enjoy his music. I was really shocked to see him decades later as a Muslim.

Personally, I think that there is something larger in this story than just a musician betraying his own profession and even betraying his own identity. This story is indicative of a much larger trend, whereby people are giving up, and out of either a great sense of desperation or a miniscule sense of good and evil, are choosing evil.

It doesn't matter whether as you say, Stevens had 3 or 4 good songs while Billy Joel has about 30. That is irrelevant. It's that Cat Stevens' songs shaped the performer's identity which millions of people identified with. What is also significant is that Stevens sang about peace and personal reflection, which goes to show how there lies in the peacenik, not so far beneath the surface, a real fascist.
