My guess is that John McCain will pick Mitt Romney.
-
I dont particularly like Romney, but for some reason he is closer to McCains form of republican than any of the other choices. It would be nice if Lieberman is on the ticket. At this particular time I dont know if it would hurt or help McCain considering how racially/religiously charged this election is.

I have to wonder if the Mormon thing is going to be a real problem for Romney. Most Christians don't consider Mormons to be part of their religion. Furthermore the whole weird thing with Mormons believing American Indians are Israelites or whatever weird stuff they believe could come back to bite Willard.
-
Romney being a Mormon will hurt him, but I believe that he's the safest and most effective choice. The establishment likes him as well, but with McCain, who knows. I believe this is one election where voters will be more trusting of the VP pick that the name on top of the ticket.
-
it's so hard to tell since MSNBC will say it is an ultra liberal, while another station will make think it will be a conservative like Hukabee. My pick is the jewish governor in Virginia (Cantor)
-
You are correct on how most Christians veiw Mormonism, but I am not voting for a preacher, I aready have one, I am voting for the Vice President of the US. I agree with the majority of his standings regarding social and political mores.
-
I hope it's Romney, for sure. I don't think his Mormonism will hurt him as much as the fact that the other choices are total losers will hurt them.
-
Mit Romney as the logical pick, Mike Huckabee as the sentimental favorite!
-
I hope McCain decides to surprise everybody and choose Mike Huckabee. Hope springs eternal.
-
Huckabee might deter some conservatives who don't like his "Jesus cares about the illegals and so should you" nonsense.

This is true. I am not a fan of Crookabee

Amen. Never liked the guy, never will. The best I can say about him is that he's somewhat better than McCain. But not as much better as Romney is.
-
Chaim, you don't see any chance McCain will pick Larry Flynt (aka Fraud Thompson), do you?
-
I have really no idea :-\
-
I can't stand Romney I want Huckabee
-
I want Romney cause his expirience in the business world is what we need to get our economy back on track. Our economy since Pelosi and gang took over in 07 has gone to the dog house. Never mind the value of our dollar that is like toilet paper now
-
Agreed, Romney is by far the best choice of pretty much all Republicans out there right now and poses the least liability.
Yes, he is a Mormon, but he doesn't wear it on his sleeve. More voters associate Huckabee with evangelical Christianity than they do Romney with Mormonism. I don't think it will be a big issue.
-
Romney will probably give the best chance of winning. Only evangelicals seem to have a problem with his mormonism, but all non-evangelicals seem to have a problem with huckabee being a baptist minister..... With Romney's business background and polished, cookie-cutter look, he will have the widest appeal, IMO.

Very true. And don't forget that in the primaries, many young evangelicals ditched him en masse for Obama or McCain (the latter because of his "humane" policies on immigration). ::)
-
Mitt Romney. But I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses Huckabee as Huckabee really went after Romney, thus enabling McCain win.
-
Chaim's predictions are almost always right.
-
Pawlenty
Mccain will play it safe and go with
this boring, least-controversial choice......
I hope I am wrong and he picks Romney
who can deliver Michigan and mormon western states and can help raise money. If Mccain wins Michigan it would signify a trend and he would win
-
I want Huckabee but i doubt he'll be picked.
-
This is a hard one. I selected Pawlenty but it could be Romney. Both could help in theory. Bigger upside and downside to Romney.
-
Mitt Romney. But I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses Huckabee as Huckabee really went after Romney, thus enabling McCain win.
I don't think that's the reason. Huckabee, after Iowa, was almost a non-factor (people didn't want a pastor president). McCain won because of the endorsement of the entire party brass and the media.
-
Tim Pawlenty and Mitt Romney are possibilities. There's also a small chance that Huckabee will be selected. He hasn't yet been designated a speaking spot at the Republican convention. He's a great speaker and McCain would probably give him a spot. Since he hasn't yet, there's probably a chance that he's being considered for the VP nominee. However, I think Pawlenty or Romney are more likely to be selected.

Furthermore the whole weird thing with Mormons believing American Indians are Israelites or whatever weird stuff they believe could come back to bite Willard.
So some of them despise Mormons so much that they would rather vote for Obama who supports partial-birth abortion as well and also has odd views of babies who survive an abortion?
-
He may pick Guiliani.
-
Changing my vote to Romney
The selection of Biden makes the probability of a Pawlenty choice zero.
Pawlenty is too much of a newbie and would be wayyy too green in a debate with Biden.
All pro-abortion candidates are off the table.
It would cause a mutiny and I bet Schmidt and Davis
made sure Mccain knows that.
-
I wish he pick Romney but i just heard that Powel is in it too!

Well let me put it this way. We have a lot of wishy washy, minimal Christians in the USA. If this is going to be a tight election then some of those votes could matter. They might feel more comfortable with Biden who is a Catholic than with Romney who is a Mormon. People in America generally understand Catholics as being normal even if they don't follow Catholicism. We don't generally understand how Mormon men can look so much like humanoid robots or how the women can want to have such large families and not feel worn out after the third one. (by the way I personally think their large families are nice, they're adding to the white population in America).
Americans don't understand how Mormons can believe some of the wild and wacky things they espouse. We tell their annoying missionaries to go away and leave us alone, we make jokes about how best to prevent them getting to the door, etc. some of which are quite funny but would be criminal if carried out in real life.
So basically Catholics are considered fairly normal even if different from most Christians in America on a few points, and by comparison Mormons are considered wacky by the general population.
Nevertheless I think any problems that Romney might have in this regard could potentially be solved by juxtaposing very nice, conservative looking Mormons with Obama's pastor. lol

Thinking about this subject again, i would say romney might be the one mccain will pick..but I sure hope it's huckabee...
-
If McCain picks Pruneface I'm staying home.
-
Support Huckabee for VP!! I think he is dumb enough to choose Lieberman, but keep an eye on Romney.
-
I wish he pick Romney but i just heard that Powel is in it too!
Did anyone heard it also?

I heard that as well.

Powell supports Obama last I've heard... he be stickin' wif a bratha!
-
If McCain picks Powell then for sure he's senile.
-
He may chose him because of color and he was secretary of state! That could offset Biden experience, leadership and diplomacy.
-
And he's also as liberal and white/Jew-hating as Obama. I don't think McCain is that stupid but I could be wrong.
-

Well we Serbs lose anyway!Who ever wins we lose.On one hand we have McCain who criticize Clinton for not sending American troops in Serbia,on other side we have Biden who was war monger against Serbs. That is why i will not vote.It would be voting against my own people and i think it's same case with Jews and Israel.
-
G-d help us all!
-
Obama is more likely to attack the Serbs again than McCain. You can't not vote for the sake of us all.
-
I think Lieberman is no threat to be picked.
(And choosing Powell would be a sign of schizophrenia)
My assumption is that since Lieberman has been thrown a bone
(a convention speech), he wont be picked for VP
So there is some relief there.
Mccain has a history of going off the reservation but I think
this time Schmidt and Davis have a leash on him.
Also I'm not happy with the way Huckabee has publicly trashed Romney recently and has also issued a warning to Republicans to not criticize Obama.

I don't think so C.F..Not just recently he has send his wife to assure Albanians and Kosovo Albanians that he will support them and assure their interests.

in defense of those republicans who say not to bash Obama too much is that Obama will only end up bashing himself...that or another democrat such as Hillary supporters...It is better for your enemy to make your other enemy look bad...that is, in an interesting parallel...let the Shiites kill the SUnnis and vice versa rather than Israelis deal with the dirty work.

Hello again C F ...I hope he picks Mitt too for two reasons, first Mitt backed out early in the race so there would be no division in the Republican party, and Mitt is more conservative than McCain so it would be a good balance.
Shalom from Dox :)
-
Romney would be best. Cantor would be good also, but he is too little-known.
-
Obama or McCain?
To be or not to be that is the question now!
-
I also say Romney as VP... but once again Huckabee is my favorite!
