Title: Should overweight people be forced to pay more health insurance?
Post by: RanterMaximus on August 22, 2008, 09:26:20 AM
I was just reading where the Alabama, the second most overweight state, is considering charging it's overweight state employees for health insurance, which they now get for free.  I myself have lost over 50 lbs over the past year, by eating right and working out, and I know people far heavier than I ever was, paying next to nothing for their health plan.

No not everyone is the same size or shape. It's just another trick to get money out of people.

Yes, they should!

Most Americans are fat slobs.

Fat slobs have more health problems than skinny people.

I was recently in Europe and did not see any fat people around, unless the were American tourists...  ;D!
It a scary situation that our own government has allowed these multi national corp to poison the food we eat, it's not only Fat Slobs that are affected, it much more than that. There are Fat Slobs everywhere inthe world but yet they don't manifest in the same manner.  ???

Yes it is a disgrace the way our government lets food companies use so many chemical ingredients and the way that so many of our whole foods, i.e fruits and veggies, and dairy have been poisoned.  Plus, it the fact that there is fast food joint on every corner never helps.

Hey Hey Hey!!! Watch it there Mr Scriabin,

It is a proven fact, that fat people are less likely to be kidnapped. Also, I don't think we should pay more insurance costs as we already have to spend more money on food to keep us going.

No more hate speech!

When it comes to health I am a socialist. I think the state should provide free medicine to its citizens.

Most states can't even pave a road or fix a pothole.  So how could one trust them to regulate health care.  And heaven forbid if the Feds take total control.

I mean this is an issue between the insureance company and their customers. If they decide to give more healthy people with a better bmi a discount, it is an allowed deal.  :)

IT depends if they are intentionally or unintentionally overweight.

People who are neglegent on their health and eat junkfood and don't exercise should have higher fees on their insurance. The rest, it depends on the company.

Obviously.  Also smokers should. etc etc.

However... Im sure Michael Moore would disagree.

Yes, Michael Moore would disagree.  But he has made so much money bashing America, he can afford to be a unhealthy, fat slob.

Well, this unintentionally overweight is a very rare phenomenon. The vast majority of fat people say it, but it is nearly always a lie.

If they eat like a sparrow and make some sport, from where comes the mountain of fat?

Imo the most fat people eat secretly and pretend then it is a disease.

Yes, people that are grossly overweight choose to be so.  They are fat and lazy.  A few days ago I saw a woman at Wal-Mart in one of those motorized scooters.  She weighed every bit of 300 lbs and was eating a bag of chips as she shopped!

no some people truely have a glandular problem that makes them eat too much...it is rare, and most of those people are more morbidly obese than those that intentionally eat at McDonalds and other terrible fast food places.

Its really astonishing how much more overweight americans are then in Europe and other parts of the world. Personally i think obesity is sort of a selfish mentality, anyone can lose weight if they really wanted to (unless of course if you have a medical condition)

People who are health risks already pay more than healthy people.  I'm with a laizzez-faire economic system on this one.

Food companies should be allowed to do what they wan't to the food, without the govt budding in on their every move. Overweight people should pay more. Trans fat should remain in Fast food. Personally, I will not touch fast food. And people need to make their own choices, not relying on the govt to do it for them.
