I love cockatiels. They're pretty :) They're not as flashy as some types of parrots but they don't have to be, they have a charm all their own. One of my friends growing up had a cockatiel that he kept in the same cage with a parakeet. They were nice little birds and I always enjoyed watching them.
My lizard
What kind of lizard? A bearded dragon, an iguana, etc? Have you seen Melissa Kaplan's care pages? Those are supposed to be among the best.
3 dogs and 1 cockateel.
What types of dogs do you have? I love dogs. :) One of my favorite breeds is the Weimeraner, but I've never owned one. I just like the way they look.
Zelhar, Zionistforever and Muman, tell us more about your cats please :) I miss these kinds of topics because Appreciation for Creation isn't around anymore. Do you guys have any pics of your kitties?
My sister has two cats that I've seen, one is named Cash (after Johnny Cash) and she calls him Cashew. He's a ginger cat. Her other cat is is a beautiful "blue" cat (looks dark gray to me) named Sally. She named her after the character on the Nightmare Before Christmas. They had kittens before my sister had a chance to get them fixed and one of them was called Jeremiah, he died as a kitten and I got to see him before they buried him, he was very cute. I was sad he didn't make it. I haven't gotten to see the others yet but I hope to soon.

We have a wonderful, show quality English Bulldog, my second bulldog. My old boy recently died from an old age.
We are planning on getting a Dogue de Bordeaux as well. To top it off, we will probably will get a kitten. That should be enough! :)

My Kittie is turning 16 this September.
When she was about half year old She had a litter of 3 cute Kittens, 2 ginger males and one black female. And she had another four adopted kittens at the same time, which my sister had brought home. 7 suckling kittens were almost too much for her, she had an infection that had nearly killed her. But ultimately she and all the Kittens survived. After that we had her fixed of course.

Shalom Muman, your cats are precious! I have 3 dogs....a jack russel terrier, a doxie, a timber wolf mix, one cat, one turtle, 2 african fat tail geckos and one tokay gecko. Now the Forum knows I am a nut...it's official :D
P.S. The timber wolf mix lets the female dogs eat first and he is very protective of them.

2 cats, and 2 Shitzus. One of these days I hope the kids will let me get a real dog. I would love to get a pair of German Shepherds for personal companion protection.

I have 1 cat but I would like a dog
I am so happy I have cats and not dogs... When I was a kid I had a beagle and it required very much attention, care, doctors and clean-up. Cats are very intelligent, clean, take care of themselves, are self reliant, dont need constant attention, are affectionate when it is convenient, they dont hold a grudge {well some do}. Ive had cats for 20 years and they can take care of themselves outside. I let several of the cats stay in the yard where they sleep under bushes or on the roof. I just put a big dish of water and a dish of food in the backyard and they are happy.

AmericanHero,
Do you plan to rent your whole life? I bought a house when I was 27 {with my wife}. Now I have a better house. I always thought that was the American dream. I realize that we are currently in a real estate finance problem, but I just refinanced my house and am saving money each month {and paid down on the car}. I have faith, that if we prevail against Obama, that the economy has a chance of returning to the way it was in the 90s {when I bought my house}.
When you have your own house you can own any pet you want. You can keep cars {and vans} in your garage. There is a lot of independence when you own your own home. It is preferable to renting...

Also, cats treat everyone the same.
Dogs kiss the owner's tuchis.

Scraibin,
You must not know my cats. My cats are very particular about whom they allow to get close and hold them. I have three cats which love to sit on my lap, sleep on me, follow me around the yard, come when I call. Then there are other cats which will not come at all. Only one of my cats really likes my roommate.
My cats dont treat everyone the same. I should make some more videos of my cat pepper, she is such a good cat.
muman613
PS: This argument is completely subjective. I love cats so much there is nothing which will sway me. I also like dogs but as I said before they require so much attention, walking, cleaning, etc...

I got a dog from the pounds 5 years ago, I asked what kind of dog it was and they told me it was a Jack Russel Terrier. If you have kids and other pets, DO NOT GET A JACK RUSSEL TERRIER! I have to keep her seperate from the Doxie and the cat. Jack Russel terriers are agressive and over active. My JRT has no interest in the turtle and bigger dog Buster, she knows he could kill her in one bite. Doxies are great, they are comical in addition to being loyal. The best dogs in the world I do believe are Labs. Even though I don't have one now....I suggest a Lab, black or golden, they do well with families and other pets.
I hope you get a dog someday and that it will have many happy years with you and your family.

Don't get a pit bull, it will seem nice and may be very loyal to you but one day it could turn on you in an instant. Go with the Shepherd or Husky.

Are males or females better? I imagine getting the dogs spayed or neutered could also make a difference.

One dog that's always scared me really badly are dobermans. There used to be some evil ones that lived across the street from me when I was growing up and they acted like they wanted to kill me and attacked my friend. Of course I say evil in the sense of their being dangerous, of course animals themselves are not evil.

I don't like Rottweilers either, they never seemed to be friendly to me at all. I've usually encountered them as very aggressive snarling dogs that look like they have the power to easily follow through.

To me Rottweilers are like pig dogs
They do look like it! They're just as dangerous as wild pigs too.
One reason I stopped taking walks is one day I saw a loose rottweiler running around the neighborhood. Another time there was a partially broken fence and a rott kept trying to break through it to kill me. I tried to get away as fast as I could without running.

When I was 9 years old, I was playing outside one day and I noticed a dog sitting in a yard 3 houses away. I noticed something wrong right away, the dog was staring at me and he was sitting in the attack position, I felt so uneasy and fell into the dogs trap...I ran as fast as I could but it was too late, the dog got the back of my leg...he broke the skin and I had a horrible bruise where I was bit.

Shalom,
Just to be balanced I will add that my experience with a Rottweiler was a good one. Many years ago {In the late 80s} a friend of mine raised a Rottweiler from a puppy. I knew this dog since it was a little critter and it grew up quickly. Those dogs eat a lot and grow a lot and become big dogs. If the dog knows you it is very friendly and likes to play and lick you in the face. But if it gets riled up, is afraid, or thinks you are an invader, it can chomp on your bones like a toothpick. My friends dog used to chew on cement blocks. They have mighty jaws which I am glad I have never had to worry about. This dog used to love me and sit next to me when I visited.

They usually attack head on, so how would I be able to get around to their side in time if one came charging at me? lol
