What are your thoughts?

Bump.

I oppose. Supporting this is supporting socialism.

I absolutely oppose. It is one part of another Establishment sham, in my opinion. One of the biggest goals of Communism, as laid out by Engles and Marx is the abolishment of private property. In essence the Government used tax payers money to "save" these corrupted businesses.
Since most, if not all, of the heads of these organizations are also very much members and closely affiliated with the Government and party complex they were protected where anyone else would have gone to jail.
By the government, in essence, "Nationalizing" these two companies the government owns their debts. Those that formerly owed money to these institutions now owe the government directly. This is Communism. If this happened in China, Cuba or any "red" nation, nothing would be said BUT for this to happen in America, heads should be rolling, there should be crowds of protest in the street and George Bush and the entire connected Establishment should be very fearful of criminal persecution, if not worse. Bush should be impeached for this....
This is a major undermining of your Constitution and will have drastic effects... :(

100% agree.

Did you happen to hear George Bush's speech on Minority Home Ownership from June of '02? This guy is a ***** COMMUNIST!
Savage did an amazing job these last few days. He's saying out publicly what I've now been saying for years. He is now speak it HOW IT IS! An Establishment ruled ONE party system! Your Constitution is now like toilet paper!
ALL OF THESE ELITISTS, INCLUDING GEORGE BUSH, SHOULD BE IN PRISON!

The companies ARENT going to be nationalized. This is essentially a form of subsidized bankruptcy in which freddy and fannie will ultimately be re-issued as new corporations to the public.
The part where we will get ROYALLY screwed is when the government (IE the taxpayer) has to bail out the BILLIONS in lost deposits to keep these companies and their holdings afloat. The number could potentially even go into the Trillions in the long run.
However, the aternative is not good either. If the government ignores the situation and lets the deposits dissapear... no one will have any faith in our financial system... everyone here and abroad will pull their money out.. all the financial institutions will face collapse.. and wala.. instant depression.

The reasons these organizations failed is because they were forced by the government to make loans to people that did not have the ability (or desire) to pay back the loans. The mortgage maps that the loaners used to identify neighborhoods where property values and residents were not good candidates were defined as racial.
And so you have unstable people with houses dozens of times over their yearly income and unable to pay them back.

The gouvernment has to stay away from the private economy. What the Bush administration is doing is twisting the natural order.
So the owners of this two companies make money in good times and don't loose money if they make mistakes.
The gouvernment will never save our companies, but the bigger the greater is the chance that we all have to pay with our tax money for the billionaires.
This is imo a greater problem than wicked welfare. >:(

Yes Brian, I agree with you but the financial system itself is corrupted and broken. Has been for a very long time. Only the continual manipulations have kept it afloat this long.
The only association the government should have with this is prosecuting the board members of these two companies and all of their associates that were involved, even at arm's length.
Government has no business taking unassociated tax payers dollars to bail out companies.... None whatsoever.
My two cents...
