The Obama campaign will probably sell it as it was Biden's choice, not Obama. They are sneaky.

Fact is that Obama himself is becoming the problem not Biden. Since Saddle Back Obama has never really recovered. As of late he is expected to take positions on issues and his replies have landed him in hot water. Adding to his problems people honestly like Governor Palen. Even if Biden were to resign the campaign Clinton may no longer be interested in partnering up with a dead dog. Hillery might be happy sitting back for 4 years and then face Palen or McCain on her own terms.
