Phone Chabad headquarters at 718-774-4000

If you have no success with them, try phoning other Chabad's from this list:
http://www.chabad.org/centers/default_cdo/city/Brooklyn/state/New%20York/country/USA/jewish/Chabad-Lubavitch.htm

I'm not sure if they'll be for free but you could also try:

Ohr Somayach JLE
1399 Coney Island Ave.
Brooklyn, NY 11230
Tel: 718-677-6200
Toll Free: 1-800-431-2272
Fax: 718-677-6299
[email protected]

They should at least have some free unreserved places.

I think it's a little late to be asking about a place to be at. But I suggest to just go to your local shul. (Its kindo'v late to make arrangements to stay at someone house, etc.) In many of the shuls, their are seats that someone who doesn't pay can come and sit at (but they can be taken by someone else) so just try that, or do whatever- maybe go to shul now and ask to get a seat- the $ goes to maintaining the shul (which is charity), so its not a big deal to pay a little, unless your really really broke.

They are all free. In that you don't have to be a member of the shul to go on a yom kippur. And technically you could go every week and not be a member.

Shuls often have plastic chairs.. on festivals when there are many people.

There are loads of jews in Brooklyn new york!!!!!!  You just want a shul you can sit down in!! Any shul, surely.

If you don't want to pay membership, then choose shuls and seats in them where they don't give you an aliyah! a shul where you are fairly unnoticed. If they are very welcoming to you then they are probably hoping that you'll become a member. actually if you come after the leining has started then you won't be noticed as much!!  If you are there at or near the start on shabbat, then they'll see "ah, this guy is really serious", and they might give you an aliyah and expect you to come regularly every week early and want to pay e.t.c.  (of course, it's good to come in the morning, but I am talking strictly from the stand point of avoiding anybody expecting you to pay the membership fee!!)

But you certainly won't be expected to pay just for going on yom kippur. It's a large section of weekly people that they would expect it from.
