He is an Erev Rav because he wants to give away the whole country and is against anything Jewish.

"Mixed multitude".   The phrase is used in the bible describing a mixed multitude accompanying the Jews leaving Egypt.  According to tradition, this group made trouble and were the instigators of all of the sins the Jews did in the wilderness such as the golden calf and stuff like that.  So the term applies to an evil group of people who look and act like genuine Jews but are really pure evil.
