Starting this year there is going to be an Iserali baseball league. There are going to be 6 teams and start playing this year. What do you think about this?
-
Chaim talks about this on 'ask JTF'.
-
wow! I agree with Chaim so much on this..
Worshipping athletes...so true...what a waste of time and does seem like idolotry.
I thought that football player who declined the NFL to go to Afganistan (Pat Tillman) was righteous to do so.
Even though his life was wasted by friendly fire, his heart was in the right place.
Worshipping athletes as a national passtime is juvenile waste of time for imebeciles.
I think it is cool to have Israeli athletic leagues but hopefully they won't take on the scope of American sports.
How could someone only specializes in hitting a ball and be so worshipped and praised and talked about?
-
I think that people who think that watching sports are idiots is an idiot themselves. There is nothing wrong with it.
-
I don't think that watching sports is wrong at all.
In fact I like the UFC a lot. Mostly because it is not nearly as corrupt as pro-boxing, they test them for roids, the salaries aren't huge, and they have to be in awesome physical condition.
but I don't understand why grown people go so ape-s#it for for pro atheletes (posters, trading cards, memorizing elaborate statistics from 1950 all the nostalgia etc...) or how they let the wins/losses of their team affect their mood so much.
It's the media worship and the attention to their personal lives and the fact that they are considered the role models of society.
If their salaries were a lot less and they were seen as human beings I might like it a little more.

Hi Ben!! Are you the same one that's on the Take back America shows? Let me know. I am just glad that the baseball season started today. I also hate football.
-
You know. the one with Chaim on the Take back america shows.
-
Haha thats funny.
Some people use Ben as a shortening of the name benyamin.
-
I can't wait for this league to start this summer.
-
Ben Oni, thats quite sad don't you think?
Its starting to become a trend for celebrities to call their kids random objects. Apple, tribute, bluebell, cupcake etc have all been taken.
-
Sarah, what does that have to do with this topic?
-
What are your views on this Iserali baseball league.
-
Well, I know in Japan they have non-Japanese players in that league, so they can have non-jewish players there.
-
Are they ethiopian jews? A lot of them represent Israel in sporting competions. It'll be sad if Israel starts to turn into America especially with its shvartza problems. Does it have high crime statistics?
-
I hope that the league will be successful.
-
Does this league have a web site?
-
http://www.israelbaseballleague.com/
Use google.
-
Thank you guys!!
-
LET'S GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!
-
How do you like that new stadium in Philly?
-
No. But, I've been to camden yards.
-
How do you like that new stadium in Philly?
Joe - Not to get off topic but what do you think of the new stadium they are building for the Mets? I grew up very close to Shea and feel kind of attached to it.
As far as the Israeli baseball league -
I think people enjoy the sport most when they can relate to the players.
I would prefer our baseball players to be American.
I hate when a baseball player has to have a translator to do an interview.
I'm going to check out the link to the Israeli league - thanks Sarah :)

Sports i believe has become twisted but only on terms of its managment, stratergies and objectives. It is no longer Sport as in keeping fit. Its watching it whilst stuffing your face on the sofa.
Cosmokramer, Black "rough" sportsmen are excellent at sports and i would rather they stick to that instead of mingling into other jobs etc. They have to do something, they might as well play sport.
-
Well, bullcat, I still live close to Shea and I think that it's about time that the Mets will have a new stadium. Shea is falling apart and you take your life in your hands when you go to the bathrooms there. I just hope that the new stadium won't have those kind of problems. I think that sarah should stop sitting in front of her computer and get out of the house once in a while and stop complaining about my posts.

I go past Shea stadium each day and it really doesn't look all that bad from the outside. Its been many years since I have been inside so I will take your word about it being in bad shape. I am watching the new stadium go up each day and to be honest I am not impressed. It looks small and I was really hoping to see New York finally get a covered stadium. As far as life in your hands unfortunately the same animals will be in attendance in the new stadium. For me it will be sad to see Shea taken down a few years from now it was one of the last surviving buildings from the 64,65 New York Worlds Fair.

Does anyone know when the league will start playing games?

Dude, to each his/her own. I like to play sports. It keeps me healthy and entertained when i want to relax my brain. When I have kids one day, I know that they will want to run around and play all the time too rather than sit in front of the tv and watch mindless tv shows all day.
And watching sports is fine too. These athletes have amazing skills. Why don't you try hitting a ball that is coming at you 90 mph? Or for that matter throwing a ball that quickly or 50 to 100 yards? or even catching a fly ball even if the sun isn't in your eyes! Not easy...
Do sports solve the problem of the world? Eh, not really. Sometimes you get different countries to play wtih each other and it does bring friendlier ties.
Is fanaticsm ok? no..never..unfortunately there are sports fanatics..but like anything else one does..it's not good to be a fanatic in anything...

Go Mets!!!!

-
Hey Sarah!! Where have you been?
All the way to china and back again :).
I've just been a bit preoccupied and limited.
What state do you live in Joe? Or are you in Israel?
-
I'm sorry but I'm not going to post where I live. Too many people will know.

Wise choice i suppose. You wouldn't want to wake up the next morning with the paparazi outside your window.
-
I'm a photographer myself. It's just the other nuts that I am concearned about.
-
Yacov, you shouldn't provide your speculation if he doesn't want people to know...
-
Thanks ftf
-
Yacov was merely pointing out what he considered obvious. New York afterall is a pretty big place.
You're a photographer, thats cool. I take a few photos myself, have you ever heard of DASH arts in New York?
-
No, I haven't. I heard of ASMP
-
When is opening night for the league.

went to the draft at Cardozzo.
-
I agree with your comment entirely

The game's on tonight at 6 pm on SPORT5 but won't be coming to the U.S. via PBS until July 1st, and it's limited to only some major areas. I'm not a baseball fan at all but I'm going to be watching because I want to support a fledgling sport's league of ANY kind in Israel. Who knows, maybe I'll even become a fan. If anyone in the states really wants to see the game I can record it digitally and upload it via torrent or Rapidshare. Let me know.
-
On Sunday, July 1st, Ch. 13 here in New York at 11 A.M., will broadcast a game is the Iserali league. I don't know if it's a live broadcast or tape. So, anyone who reads this and who lives in the New York City area, please watch ch. 13 at 11 AM on this coming Sunday.
-
really? i'v never heard about it.
-
I really enjoyed the first game on TV. I only wish that if another game is broadcast here, it should be a live broadcast and not tape. Did anyone of you enjoy the game on Sunday?
-
Yesterday nothing was really on so I was surfing through the channels and PBS aired the IBL, and said ok I will watch, very interesting. I was impressed with the talent on one team. I don't remember the name of the team they had a white uniform. But their run production was very impressive.
-
How many of you out there have watched the game on PBS?
-
Is there going to be another year of the league?
-
The league struggled very badly financially. I think they have committed to another year, but beyond that is anybody's guess.
-
If they feed the Yankees and Sox with players it might receive some needed funds.
I played baseball most of my life, and I love the sport. I'm glad it's making it's rounds in the world.
