Title: Judge allows Gay Marriages in Connecticut

A judge cleared the way Wednesday for gay marriage to begin Wednesday in Connecticut, a victory for advocates stung by California's referendum that banned same-sex unions in that state.

Couples immediately marched to New Haven City Hall to get marriage licenses, and less than two hours after the final court hearing, Peg Oliveira and Jennifer Vickery were married in a brief ceremony next to New Haven City Hall.

"I feel so happy," said Vickery, a 44-year-old attorney. "It's so much more emotional than I expected."

Gay marriage is legal now only in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The unions were legal in California until a statewide referendum to ban gay marriage narrowly passed last week. The vote has sparked protests and several lawsuits asking that state's Supreme Court to overturn the prohibition.

The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled 4-3 on Oct. 10 that same-sex couples have the right to wed rather than accept a civil union law designed to give them the same rights as married couples.

Shalom,

This is such a shame. I grew up in Connecticut, Stamford to be precise...

It seemed, in my memory, to be conservative {in my neighborhood there were no blacks} and had very good schools {one of the main reasons my parents moved there with my brother and I}. What has happened to Connecticut? My mom still lives in CT. Although my mom doesnt share our concern over the problem of homosexuality {so many of her 'friends' have gay sons or daughters :( } I think she is beginning to see the wisdom which I am telling her.

I sure hope that we can protect the sanctity of the holy relationship called Marriage. I was just listening to a shuir on the Jewish laws of Marriage from the Talmud and it is wonderful that we have such precise definitions. Those who want to re-define the meanings of words are just trying to undermine the very foundation of faith.

Muman, doesn't this theme of redefinition and undermining seem to be prevelant in every aspect of American life.  if it weren't, someone w/no papers to even be in this country, with no qualifications, could be elected president.

what does some screwy judge care if he changes the meaning of marriage.  these horrible people live in estates and never have to look at the gays, only in their courtrooms.  i think they vote wrong because they can.  they deserve to be thrown off the benches.  there is something psychologically wrong with them along w/the people that appear before them.

I'm listining to a very good shiur where the Rav is speaking specifically on this. Message- Jews pack your bags, make plans to Eretz Yisrael!

I know, I was thinking it was an error at first, but no, it's not the same, and both are very good, and both very unique and needed messages.
Also even the 2 different Shiurim that R' Wallerstein Shllita has given (1 to the boys and 1 to the girls), even though many time they overlap and are very similar (I listin to both), this time they a lot less similar, and definitly worth listining to both B"H.
