It is known too under the name: Meschkinnes
It has two ingrediences: Vodka and natural honey.
I think it could be invented in Poland or Lithuania.
There is a story, that people in this regions catched bears with it. The honey lures the bear and the vodka is anesthetizing it.
But I think this is only a legend after some hunters have drunk too much of it.

Pheasant,
I have never heard of this.
Have you ever tried it?
Is it an actual alcoholic beverage that can be purchased?
And if so, where can it be bought?
If it is real, it might be a good combination of sweet with the strength of the vodka.
-
I bet that would be good mixed with some clear soda like sprite or ginger ale.

I have drunk it pure.
But perhaps some people drink it your way.
I have read somewhere, that some people add it to their tea.

I'd be afraid of drinking too much straight because I wouldn't want to hurt my liver. I had a relative who died from alcohol-related issues so I've always been really careful with that kind of thing not to overdo it.

Pheasant,
Thanks for posting the pic with the note attached, it gave me a much needed late night smile.
I think I will look into buying some, the combination sounds like something that I would like.
Enjoy your drink and have a goodnight, with all that is going on in our world, we all deserve a break every so often.

I have only had schnapps once and its been so many years ago that I hardly remember how it tasted. I recall it being very sweet like a after dinner cordial. I like the looks of the bottle and the vodka and natural honey combination sounds interesting so now I have to track some down and taste it. I don't think this is a drink that most people would over indulge in it sounds like a shot or two would be great but more would make a person sick as a dog. :coffee:

You are right CJD. You can not drink more than a small ammount of this stuff. Otherwise you wouldn't feel comfortable.

Das ist ja ekelig. Vodka mit Honig. :o
It's like Met (Mead). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mead (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mead)
I also don't like Waldgeist. Vodka with Waldmeister (sweet woodruff). Once I vomit because of it ;D
I prefere V+ ;D

Mead and Baerenjaeger are made by two different methods.
First one is basically a wine made from honey. So it has a little bit acidity plus the residual sweetness.
Second one has all the tastes of the honey in a concentrated form. It burns first very strong, but then it is only sweet for a long time.
But you are right, it is not everybodies thing and of cause nothing to drink regulary and in great ammounts.

I walked into a local liquor store and one of the first things I saw was the Bear Catchers. It was very cheap about 22 bucks. I am going to have some later after I have a big platter of locally caught mussels for dinner.

Yes but that plate is hardly enough to fill a tooth

This are Miesmussels.
I know them. The fishers at the North and East-sea eat them.

They are quite common here years ago I would go out to the large rocks just off the beach on an old tire tube and harvest a big pail full. Now I just buy some in the store. We just finished off 4 pounds of them. Now for the Bear Catchers 8)

The mussels were delicious. :eat:
You'll have to let me know about the Bear Catchers. 8;)

The Bear Catchers is really good it has a honey base with just the right touch of liqueur. Its tastes great slightly chilled. It was the perfect after dinner drink. I am glad Pheasant talked about it. Its a great cool weather drink! I am planning next Fridays dinner hopefully there will still be some left by then ;D. You will have to stop in before then to have a sampling.
