I've decided that i'm going to enlist in the air force. My life is pretty bad right now, lost someone I loved, i'm losing my job, and my financial situation is really bad. I know some of you may not agree with my decision, but since being part of the military is a family tradition, I am going to talk to a recruiter on Thursday and see what my options are. I haven't really been around much as i've been working out and getting in shape. If anyone is afraid that I am turning my back on the movement or Israel, don't worry, I still support Israel and I will always remember I am Jewish before anything. I will never make a decision that questions my loyalty to Israel.
Shalom.

I understand man. I have had a hard time finding a full time job myself. I don't see this stopping without a violent revolution.

Did you consider making Aliya through Nefesh B'Nefesh?
-
I am sorry, sweetie. But I am going to pray against this. With an evil person in control YOU ARE IN DANGER. Why have you not emailed or called, or ANYTHING??
-
Let me give you some advice.
1. Choose a technical job where you can learn new skills.
2. Take every training, that you can get. There are lots of courses of instructions. Make a snap.
3. Don't choose a too short time, because lot's of courses of instructions you will not get then and don't choose a too long time, because then you will not come back to civil life. 12 years max.
Don't think only about the money, think first about the education you can get there. The education there is worth tens of thousands of $.
I hope this will help you.
From someone who was already soldier. :)

Yeah!!!! Aliya is a good idea.
-
I'm down to 230 pounds, need to reach 197 pounds and boot camp will get me down to 191. How difficult is ASVAB? I need to take it before I can enlist.
-
All the best for you dude!
I will pray for you. ;)
-
Sounds like a great idea, White Israelite. I have two blog friends who've served in the USAF for 26 years. Good luck to you.
-
If you can become an officer, you should do that instead, presuming you have a degree or have started one.
-
Well I wish you the best of luck, if you set your mind to it you can do it.

Mazeltov on your wise decision.
My father served 22 years in the USAF. It was a good life with many travels.
I wish you much luck in your new direction and may G-d bless you
and help you along the way.

The ASVAB is not hard, and they will try to get you into the job they need filled based on this score. If you are enlisting, I would advise you to study up on what jobs the Air Force has to offer so you can push for the one you want before you sign up. If you have at least a Bachelor's Degree, you can become an officer if you are interested. I'm enlisted in the Navy and I work with a lot of Air Force people so if I can be of any assistance let me know.
What are your thoughts on coast guard, that is another option as well.
-
Best of luck with this its sounds like a great way to get back on your feet. The military has a great deal to offer today and the pay is actually not that bad.
-
My brother in law became an Air controller in the Air Force now he works as a civilian Air controller makes good money
-
Good luck, but please weigh this carefully. The military is not a light decision and most of the people who have enlisted in the past few years really come to regret it.
If I were you I would consider aliyah before enlisting. Doesn't the Israeli government help new immigrants fnd jobs?
-
How old are you? Do you have a family to support?
-
Have you thought about Aliyah?
It seems like you are at a time in your life where Aliyah may be a good option.
-
Becareful of the recruiter. He will be like a used car salesman who will tell you anything to get you to enlist into the MOS he needs filled. Decide beforehand what it is EXACTLY you want to do, and then insist on it. He may say it isn't available and/or you aren't qualified for it. If he won't give you an MOS you want check in with other recruiters. They almost alway come around and offer you what you want in the end.
-
I am 23, no I don't have a family. I'm pretty sure this is what I want to do.
-
In that case, go for it. BUT... make sure you DONT get the old bait and switch from the recruiters. You dont want to be stuck working under a silo in the middle of nowhere. Make sure you do some research to find out where you want to specialize, and stick with it.
-
I understand that, I have a lot of friends who are airforce in the area, the ASVAB will help to determine what kind of job I can get into.
-

If anything, move to Israel. I am sure your computer skills can land you a good job there. Have you looked into that?
-
I wish you all the best with this decision, White Israelite. I think the military is great option. I'm glad you let us know. Missed seeing you post on the forum.
-
Well I did pretty well on the ASVAB sample tests, math was kind of my weak point but I managed to still get an average score. I'll take the final test this week, supposed to get with the recruiter tomorrow.
Hopefully I can land a job with INTEL or something.

Great, be VERY instant on this.
-
If you're going to serve, why not serve in Israel?
-
I agree that he should strongly consider aliyah but at this point, the Israeli military is more leftist, PC, and self-hating than the American armed forces even under Obama.
-
At least in the USAF, White Israelite won't have to throw fellow Jews out of their homes.
-
Excellent point, Lisa.
The caveat to that is that if worst comes to worst, I don't see Obama being above bombing Israel a la Clinton and Serbia. I don't see that as an immediate threat, but it could happen someday, particularly if Israel's Bolshevik leaders un-Bolshevik a bit. This is why I wouldn't suggest that any good person enlist with either military, if I'd have my druthers.

But if nodody goes to the military, who will defend the country?
-
Nobody is defending the country as it is. Our leaders allow our country to be pushed around by all sorts of two-bit foes as it is (Somali pirates, Mexican drugrunners, Iraqi "insurgents", etc.)
Throwing more young bodies into the wood chipper won't make us any safer.

May be it is correct regarding the United States, but Israel is a different story. If it has no army, it will be torn into pieces immediately. On the contrary, the best Israeli youth enlists in the IDF combat units. Today about half the IDF Junior Officer staff are national religious guys (and this fact really irritates the leftist elite).
-
Yeah, and 99% of those so-called "religious" soldiers will ethnically cleanse fellow Jews from their homes because they have no choice but to "follow orders" to a "democratic government".
We saw it in 2005, where only something like 60 out of 80,000 soldiers and police assigned to liquidate Gush Katif conscientiously objected.
-
I'm a bit paranoid about the medical bit that something will be found that disqualifies me from joining, I haven't had a doctor checkup in a long time.

Yep and many of those soldiers were disciplined for not taking part.

99%? Where do you have this figure from? Religious soldiers DID NOT participate in the evictions. There was an a spirit of total rejection of this crazy plan among them. The fact that not many of them OFFICIALLY refused to do so because there was no need in it. Military command avoided to send religious soldiers to do that because they knew such an order would never be fulfilled.
I served in IAF durring the withdrawal. My commander was a leftist, though he was not totally evil. I had good relations with him. I just said to him that if he sends me to do that dirty job, I'll refuse. And he did not send me. And even if he had given me such an order, I knew well maximum they can do to me is to put me under arrest for 28 days (a free vacation at the army expense:))
Peolpe in IDF are not robots. Along with formal relations, there are informal ones.
-
Dan Ben Noah, you brought up an excellent point. It is true that our Military is obligated to defend us from enemies and since obama is illegal, I think if push comes to shove our generals will not obey obama's commands with all the DIRT on him.

Neither does the Israeli Air Force. They have nothing to do with expulsions. For that the border police and some IDF soldiers were used. The IAF does nothing but kick arab behind.

Your figures are way off. It is not true that 99% of dati soldiers would follow expulsion orders. Where did you get it from?
Do you know how many of the soldiers in gush katif were actually religious ? And where did you get those numbers 60 and 80,000 from? Did you make that up too?
Either way, what does it have to do with someone's decision to join the IDF, IAF or not. They can choose to be one who will be ready and willing to disobey immoral antiJewish orders. That makes the numbers, whether they are 80,000, 6,000, 99% 45% or 60% or anything else completely irrelevant. Because this individual will fall in the other category.

I think you have to be picked for the IAF, don't think you have a choice.
-
Good luck I would say don't serve under obama but that is your personal choice.

I feel the same way as Abben does.
I am not comfortable with our inept President being Commander-in-Chief.
But, it is your choice and/or decision, and you will do what is right for you.
Good luck with your decision and take care of yourself.

I dont agree. Hussein issued orders that if Israel attacks Iran, they will face American fighter jets.

The Coast Guard is a better idea

By any chance, could you join the IDF instead?

Obama will never attack Israel - he is gutless wonder. I don't see US attacking Israel anytime soon. They need to first turn US into a 3rd World sewer. US, I am afraid, will attack Israel in the future. The salvation - Israel should adopt a more independent diplomatic policy and military R&D program to qualitatively surpass all countries in terms of military hardware and military stratagem. I think Israel is fully capable of creating robotic army and next generation means of air defense thus negating its humane resource disadvantage.

On a different topic, Obama did just give the go-ahead for a renewed battle in Afghanistan. So little news has been released about the situation over there. I have heard rumors about two-ten dead Americans and a couple of new American captives of the Afghanistani terrorists. I wonder why the media has not played up this news?
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/07/world/asia/07afghan.html?hp
7 G.I.’s Killed in Deadliest Day in Almost a Year in Afghanistan
So Obama is capable of giving orders, it is just not evident that the orders make sense or are fully thought out.

Tough decision, but good luck!
Hope they have internet access.

I went to the recruiters this morning, everything went well. My moms fiance knew the recruiter, and worked with him. Said I could pretty much get the computer jobs I wanted with certification. That's no problem, theres a backlog 6-8 months but demand is rising due to the increased war in Afghanistan. They also need computer guys bad.
I also lost more weight, i'm down to 217.

Always remember this, your a solider first then a computer guy. The US military will send anyone out there to die on the front lines even a person out of bootcamp with not that much training. Also good luck on the weight loss as well.
-
I'm down to 217 pounds, went to the recruiter today, everything went well, coming back there in 2 months to get some certifications.
-
Good luck I would say don't serve under obama but that is your personal choice.
This is the kind of attitude we don't need. If people served only under their desired political leaders, we wont have an army. They sign up for their patriotism and honor of this country. Thank you White Israelite for signing up.
-
YOU couldnt care LESS if White Israelite signs up, and the thank yous are insincere.
White is MY Brother, and he is NOT stupid. So spare the FAKE 'patriotism' You are lying.
-
I would be careful. Signing up for the air force is a good thing under a normal president. Your boss will be Obama and who knows where he'll send you. You can see that Obama doesn't beleive what he's saying when he calls the US soldiers brave. I guarantee you he laughed at and mocked anyone who signed for the military when he was in law school. Get a sales job. They are out there and you can make some good $. You can sign up for the military up until age 42. Wait until someone like Palin is president. Obama is an evil beast who will send you to your death and not give a rats you know what about you.
-
I have to second all of the people who are telling you that the military will send you where they want you to go. None of the promises the recruiter makes will hold up. They will say whatever it takes to get you into the services. I seriously considered enlisting into the Army a while before I started posting on this forum, but decided against it because it is such a grave, final, irrevocable decision, and most people seem to regret joining the military.
It doesn't matter if you have the skills to be a computer technician. They own you once you sign the paperwork. You might well spend eight years (with stop-loss) guarding some remote, desolate air base on the Afghan-Pakistani border against Taliban attacks; not what you envisioned.
A final thing to be wary of is the fact that once you enlist, in the fine print of any military contract is a clause stating that they basically own you, for life, if a "national emergency" deems that you need to be recalled to fight. You can be 55 years old and retired, eating dinner with your family, when a uniform knocks on your door calling you back into active service. That's happened tons of times during Iraq. Learning that pretty much permanently killed any desire of mine to enlist.
-

he's joining the air force. He's not going to any front lines.

If a draft was reinstated, I would be one of the last guys sent into combat if I were already enlisted in the airforce, not unless the marines and the army were completely wiped out. I don't see that happening.

Don't they have some special forces in the air force? What if Obama sends you to bomb Israel, Serbia or another righteous nation?
