Title: Hebrew, word of the day!
Post by: Sarah on April 12, 2007, 05:19:23 PM
I was wondering if there could be a thread discussing the Hebrew language and introducing a hefty amount of vocabulary that we can learn. I’m sure it would be helpful for a lot of people and learning Hebrew is a good thing to spend our time on.
It’s a very complicated yet beautiful language and deserves a good discussion into. This may be JTF’s English speaking forum but we shouldn’t rule out Hebrew because we don’t know it.
I only have a few words of Hebrew or Yiddish-not sure-that I’ve learnt, either by chaims mentioning or from posts:
1. DREK
2.SHMUCK
3……hmmmm…..Drek again.

Most sources for Hebrew learning seem to be non-Orthodox, I don't know if Orthodox Jews approve of gentiles learning Hebrew.  But I don't know why they would object to gentiles learning modern Hebrew because the Holy Talmud for example was not originally written in Hebrew.  And it is translated into English already.

Hey!

Fruit knows some pretty good phrases and is grammatically correct! Not bad!

Oh...and who the heck said it was wrong for Goyim to learn Hebrew? If a stranger lives among the Israelites...I would hope that he/she was able to communicate!
