Is it just me. But I think police should just carry standard Smith & Wesson model 10 revolvers or a S&W model 22 45. caliber. The whole idea to have service weapon is to use it to kill. The perpatrator pulls out a weapon. No warning, just bam, off to the morgue you go. These policemen get glocks and other autos that can jam up thus putting the officer in danger. The only thing they should have automatic is an m-16 machine gun. Forget the automatic pistols. Revolver and m-16 on you at all times. That seems good to me. If I went into law enforcement, I would take the revolver. A mix of old school and new school. ::)

"policemen get glocks and other autos that can jam up."
Yes indeed.

In my country police don't have guns at all...
This is something about which I have mixed views, they need guns to defend themselves from criminals with guns, but if they have guns there's always the chance of criminals taking guns from them, in which case a policeman could be shot that otherwise would not have been shot.

What country is this ftf? The UK?

The perpetrator used only a handgun.

If I remember correctly, you are from Britain?
I hear crime is skyrocketing there, and that sometimes robbers rob homes while the residents are home. The criminals just tell them to not resist, and that everything think will be ok. At least that's why I read in the excellent book "The Seven Myths of Gun Control."
Now regarding policemen being armed, presumably, they would be trained before going out on the street. Our police in the U.S. are trained.

If I were a police officer, a Barrett .50 would do well in this day and age with all the scum polluting the streets. I guess I'd have to settle for a Desert Eagle......50cal...LOL ;) It is too bad Canada, Britain and Europe have collapsed into Socialism with the lies of political correctness in that "guns kill" but seem to miss the entire point of the A-hole pulling the trigger. Is it logical to blame the $700.00 1978 Dodge Ram truck for running over people or the drunk illegal alien driving? Another fraud of the Left.....sort of like evolution....

I heard on Hannity today that police officers were not allowed to carry their guns onto the Virginia Tech campus, and would not have had the firepower to stop the shooter as a result of this.

I heard Savage say that this evening... There wouldn't have been much anyone could do in such a case...

He had a vest, many clips (obviously) and two pistols.
He gave this plot a great deal of thought apparently.

According to this http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg00-e.htm
automatics are now very reliable.
Some can hold 21 rounds vs the 6 of a revolver: "he with the more bullets wins!"
The Israeli Desert Eagle (the gun Darth Vader played with as a child!)

Sigs (which are Swiss-made, so perhaps we should boycott them) are very reliable, especially in 9mm. M16s though, despite being vastly improved from the Vietnam era, are still not in the dependability league of the Kalashnikov.
In any event, this is not relevant. Large numbers of citizens with revolvers will stop bad guys as surely as large numbers of citizens with semi-autos.

Yes sigsauer is a good gun. If I carried a gun it would be a either a Sig p226 40 cal or a S&W model 36 J frame.

Yes, I am referring to the UK where police don't have guns.
