Chinese people refer to Jews as "You Tai".
Anyone have any idea why? Or where it came from?

It's a Chinese transliteration of Judah/Yehudah as far as I know, so it becomes You Tai Ren (Judah/Yehudah person [or people]). I might be wrong, but this is what I've read in the past.

So probably Judah, Ju-dah was passed from one mouth to another and finally recorded as YouTai.

It's possible, but I don't know. Jews have a long history in China, going back to at least the Han Dynasty (2nd century BCE to 2nd century CE):

I may be wrong, but I have read somewhere that it may be an abbreviation of the original Sanskrit name attributed to them in China as "Yuddha Deo" or "Juddha Deo", which literally translates as "War Lord" or "Lord of War".
