A scholar and bestselling author says it will be very difficult to reverse the socialist policies of Barack Obama, even if Republicans take over control of Congress next year.
Dr. Jerome Corsi is author of the 2008 New York Times bestseller The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality (Threshold Editions, August 2008), which was recently released in paperback. He says since taking office, Obama has taken the American government in an ideologically left direction, as he warned about in the book.
Corsi says the president is determined to transform the United States into a European-style social welfare state. But he believes Obama's agenda has proven to be enormously unpopular and will cost the Democrats dearly in the upcoming midterm elections.
"Democrats could well lose control of the House of Representatives [and] control could be challenged in the Senate," he says. "And Republican governors could be put into place where's there's Democrats now, holding the statehouses for the 2012 election.
"[But] I don't think Barack Obama cares. Barack Obama's intent is to get socialism fully in place."
Even with a Republican-controlled Congress, Corsi believes it would be tough to undo all the damage. "I'm not sure what it will take to reverse the United States back into a market economy after we're got this much entitlement programs," notes the author. "The social welfare state here is beginning to look like the social welfare state in Greece -- and they're very difficult to reverse."
As he puts it, when that happens "people riot in the streets if you try to take away their benefits -- even when the government can't pay for it."

It's going to take leaders with plenty of courage to reverse the damage that Barack Hussein Obama and the Leftists in power have caused. For their to be any realistic chance for a reversal, the Republican Conservatives must make substantial gains in the 2010 Federal and State Elections and follow that up with victories in 2012. Lead by winning the Presidential Election. These are the most dangerous times in the 233 + year history of the USA.

You are so right eb! I am telling everyone I know to vote this way and hope and pray this nightmare could be reversed. This is our ONLY hope.

It will not be reversed. In fact, I would expect to see a single payer health care system next. Why? Because I have no faith in the Republicans. They may win big in November. They may even win big in 2012. But, when they revert back to their past pandering, either THEY will incrementally grow government or the public will eventually vote Democrats back into power and the health care juggernaut will continue.

Just like the Dems protect the warfare state with the welfare state, the GOP will probably protect the welfare state with the warfare state like they have done in the past.

You both sound VERY depressing! I'm going to keep my hopes up and pray for the best to come out of all of this.

It's a big hoax. The healthcare in this country went down years before Obama. My father is a physician nearing the end of his career, and he tells people that all the time.
In his words: "Think of the worst thing that can happen to your healthcare, and then understand that it happened years ago."
If the insurance industry is any indication, big money is all there is. 'Ain't no socialism with that much money in a sweetheart deal with insurance companies.
I think people will vote Obama out and go back to the Republicans, but the damage done to this country will not be reversed.
The slide has been happening for decades, and neither party is blameless.

The slide has been happening for decades, and neither party is blameless.
Precisely. And as long as people continue to vote for these two parties, the slide will continue.
An analogy, if I may.
You are a doctor and you have a patient with a serious ailment caused by smoking and which requires major surgery to cure. You
a) tell the patient he will be fine as long as he smokes more.
b) tell the patient he will be fine as long as he smokes less.
c) Get the patient into surgery as soon as you can.
We have been doing a and b for a very long time. How long can that continue before the patient becomes terminal with no hope of survival?
I'm sorry I am depressing but, if the Republicans regain power and go back to business as usual, then I do not see any hope for this country. And I say that because people will only get frustrated with the Republicans and do what they always do when that happens; vote Democrat. And, after all that has happened and is happening to this country, that would be the final nail in the coffin.

You make great points HiWarp and I have to agree with you. The Republican Party has abandoned us a long time ago and if they don't start getting back to the way they NEED to be, we are in serious trouble.

Read this and then we can talk about socialism:

That article is a sh*tload of propaganda if I've ever seen one.
It is written to dupe the naive and ignorant into both believing that socialism isn't so bad, while at the same time believing that Obama is really a good guy and not at all what his detractors accuse him of being.
The definition of Socialism: Government ownership and control of all major industries.
"Democracy is indispensable to Socialism, and Socialism is indispensable to Communism" -- V.I. Lenin

Socialists scoff at the notion. They don't applaud the passage of the recent health care bill either. They wanted a national "single-payer" health insurance plan with a government option. The bill that Obama championed didn't have any of those features.
I've got news for those so-called real socialists. That's exactly what Obama and the other socialists in the Congress want. They just know they can't get it all in one shot. So they will do what they've done in the past; implement their agenda piecemeal over time. The "real" socialists can relax. As long as the American public continues to vote for politicians like Obama and Pelosi, they will eventually get their totalitarian utopia.
-
We've seen how well Communism worked. It failed because while it may have been a dreamlike vision of "why can't we all be equally wealthy?" it turned into the disappointment of why should we be equally poor?
I agree with you that our runaway government are thieving bastards, but I don't think they're socialists.

Corsi is right, some of the changes to the US will stay in place. This is going to be extremely tough to get over!
