It is a pity, but it looks like the campaign to save the tree was ill-conceived, as it did pose a safety hazard due to the fact its trunk was rotten, regardless of its historical value. Thankfully no one was hurt when it fell.

It should have fallen on a muslim as sooner or later they would have vandalized the tree anyway.
