I know most of you will tell me that there is no independence day to celebrate because actually Israel is not truly independent. And you are certainly right to some extent. I am also aware that the corrupt Establishment in Israel hijacks this national celebration. I am not naive.
Still, I don’t care if I look foolish, but I can’t help feeling joyful every yom haatsmaut. Whatever the imperfections and the dangers of the current situation, it is a miracle and a blessing that the Jews have come back to their Land and have defeated their ennemies several times and have managed to develop a prosperous and technologically advanced economy despite all the obstacles and all the hostility.
The best is yet to come.
Happy Independance Day, Israel !

I think that the establishment if today's israel is better than no israel and being squeezed only in the galut.
So I celebrate israeli independence day. An opportunity will arise for the kahanists in this israel.

Whatever their faults, and they are many, the secular Socialists who founded Israel defied Britain, the UN, The USA and the rest of the world in declaring a State, and in defeating the Arab armies that attacked. They kidnapped Eichman from Argentina and told the world to stuff it if they did not like it. They compare favorably to the supposed right wing that rules Israel today.

We are definitely supposed to celebrate the miracles God does for us. It may not be a complete redemption but its undeniable that what happened has great significance and tremendous potential. Yaakov you shouldn't assume what people will say before they say it. Maybe 95% of the forum agrees with you, who knows.

May Hashem bless Israel and keep her strong!
NEVER AGAIN!

Fine, it wasn't really a criticism anyway since I said I agreed that Israel is not truly independent. It certainly wasn't confrontational. I guess I took this verbal precaution because on the Hebrew forum some members really bash the celebrations but this is the English forum and it is quite different.
