Two massive explosions at a weapons depot on a military base to the west of the Iranian capital Tehran on Saturday killed several people and was felt at least 45 km away, local media reported.
The semi-official Fars news agency carried a statement by the Revolutionary Guards which said the blasts happened in an arsenal at a base in Bidganeh, near the city of Karaj. Some people were killed, Fars said, without giving further details.
Hossein Garoosi told the Iranian parliament's news agency Icana.ir that the explosions broke building windows close to the site of the blast outside Bidganeh village.
The student news agency ISNA quoted Alireza Janeh, head of security issues at the Tehran governor's office, as saying: "The sound of this blast came from outside Tehran, to the west of the province ... it was in one of the military bases there."
Tehran Police Chief Ahmad-Reza Radan said that a specialized team has been dispatched to the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the blasts.
A rescue helicopter and six ambulances have been deployed as well. Iran's Red Crescent has also sent three rescue squads, which include search dogs, with hopes of finding survivors.
"The cause of the explosions and the number of casualties are being investigated," Radan said.

Believe me it was the mossad. The likud primarie elections are going to be held in this january. He is ordering the mossad to carry out those attacks so he will look like he is a "strong leader" for the upcoming elections. My understanding is that if the mossad can carry out attacks on 2 irianian missle bases ,then wouldnt a full out attack be nothing for us since we could destroy the missle bases/nuclear reactors and oil fields if bibi gave the order? We are more than capable. Besides we could also use our kurdish spec ops friends we have been training to infiltrate and destroy the bases/silos deep in the mountain regions. Problem solved thanks to smart jews with the blessings of hashem! If chaim was pm he would order the full out attack right away!
