I've heard more than one historian say that the only reason Islam had any great science or culture at one time in history is because of the (non arab/moslem) people in the lands that they conquered. The original arab mecca sand apes couldn't put one brick on top of another.

When the Muslims invaded Alexandria the Islamic Caliph Omar commanded that all books that contradicted th Koran must be burned as heretical and all books that did not contradict it were superfluous and so they too should be burned, thus what had been the world's centre of scientific knowledge was destroyed with the coming of Islam.
