When I get home from college, I will provide all of the answers.

The reason why people in the South want a new Confederate States of America is because not only do they seek to restore what was denied to their ancestors almost a century and a half ago, but also because they want a return to what these United States used to be like, a federal government that is limited to the powers delegated to it by the states, and in which the states were to exercise all other powers. Today, the United States federal government violates the 10th Amendment on a daily basis, imposing its regulations on the people of the states on such issues as education, abortion, gun rights, and the like, thereby exercising more control over all of our lives, has presidents that declare war without the benefit of asking Congress to declare a state thereof beforehand, has citizens that come home with only 60% of their paychecks, and so on. Also, the Constitution of the Confederate States of America was an improvement over its American counterpart. In the Confederate Constitution, there were clauses that allowed for a line-item veto, protected against cost over-run contracts, and restricted the president to a single six-year term. Anyway, as for people who want to make the Confederacy a latter-day reality, I know of one site:

A few years back, I took somewhat of an interest in the group League of The South, which is pushing for a restoration of the Confederacy.
I had listened frequently to their shortwave broadcasts, read their literature, studied up on Civil War histories, etc...
Then, I actually decided to attend the annual convention of of the group, expecting to encounter like-minded individuals desiring limited Federal Government, States Rights, and a return of Southern Culture (at least its best attributes).
Boy!...what a letdown!
There must have been about 30 delegates in all...and they were hideously ugly and depraved genetic mutants who had never learned the alphabet....it was like all the rejects who had applied for the cast of "Deliverance" but sent home.
Many were dentally challenged to the extreme, a good number of them dipping snuff & having a good "chaw".
I introduced myself to the President & VP, listened to them praise Austrian neo-Nazi Jorge Haider, & brag of their intimate friendships with other known White Jew-Haters.
I was informed by the President and VP that I was unwelcome unless I immediately paid my $45.00 membership fee.
Being literally short of anywhere near that amount of money, I pleaded my case that I was a true blue son of Dixie...born in the very heart of Dixie, and just wanted to listen to the speeches, etc. if possible.
Here's the rub: The two clowns in charge of the group AREN'T EVEN SOUTHERNERS!
They use the membership fees to fly all over the country, staying in nice hotels and eating good meals in restaurants, duping as many real yahoo race haters as possible to show up & give them money.
The meetings consist of a few absurd "pep talks", and then the goons all stand to attention and sing "Dixie".
It's just a racket.

Thats some story massuh. The best part of the whole thing was that the heads of the organization were not even Southerners. Funny. Humor an old Northerner if the South were to secede from the United States what exactly would they be seceding for. Is it possible to bring back slavery or any other aspects of the pre civil war south? What exactly would be the benefit of such a move for the South?

cjd: "What exactly would be the benefit of such a move for the South?"
Well for starters, they wouldn't have to turn on their TV or radio news and always hear the words "TODAY, PRESIDENT BUSH....."
Nor would they have to ask Michael Chertoff's permission to throw out and deport 30 million illegal wetbacks.
Nor would anyone ever again have to do what Washington said, even if they knew it to be suicidal, in exchange for "federal funds".
But, only crazy people would entertain the idea of making such a move!

Good points however does the population of the South have the mind set to want things like that ? The Northern States didn't create the monstrosity we call the federal government on its own. There are some powerful Southern States that influence policy in the federal government. What would prevent a Southern government from going down the same path.

But would these states want "illegal aliens" just like they wanted people from Africa?

Vermont wants to secede. I think O'Reilly is on the right track when he suggested to a proponent that they should move to Canada.

White men want their own BILL OF RIGHTS not to be construed with those of OTHERS !
