Pharisee Sullivan

In the "New Testament" the Pharisees are criticized harshly by Jesus. I'll leave it up to your imagination as to who that was.

But Jesus was himself a Pharisee

Who what was?

In everyday Christian slang, a "Pharisee" is a holier-than-thou jerk who looks down on everybody who doesn't conform to their standards or abide by as externally strict a faith as they do.

Example: A brother of one of my coworkers decided to disown all of his childhood buddies because they have an occasional drink and use an occasional swearword. He thinks his dreck doesn't stink and that his relationship with G-d is flawless.

Or, there's the Pharisee who just left our forum in an insensate rage.

Yes, as was the Apostle Paul. Technically a Pharisee was a member of the Jewish ultra-Orthodox Pharisaical sect/denomination. But nobody uses the original meaning nowadays.

Yes, it was Allen. He started making new accounts.
You need to ban his IP, but even if you will do it he can open new accounts, only if he will know how.

Jesus was probably an Essene, not a Pharisee. The Essenes practiced a version of Judaism that sounds like Christian monks. They didn't go to the bathroom on Shabbat. I think they also didn't have sex on Shabbat if they did at all.

At the Essenes scripts they talking about "a great teacher", but i dont think he was jesus.

Jesus was influenced by them though. Also, Christian Biblical archeologists are interested in the study of The Dead Sea Scrolls.

thet is only an assumption, i dont think he was so influenced by them so much because thet they have very hard laws, and the christianty have "easy" laws, the dead sea scrolls are very intersting, but i dont thing they have any conection the christianety.

Why no need, 1 thing I would like to ask those who defend Allen. If Aleen should be allowed to preach to Jews that christianty is the right path to follow would you allow and read what a Jew like me writes proving why chrisianity and all the other religions are false?
For example the NT writes 1 only 1 prophecy  and it is that the Jews will never return to the Land of Israel, isnt the establishment and the return of Jews to the Holy Land cmplety contradictury to that? At least Mohammed and the koran didnt have in it 1 prophecy, while the NT had 1 which was contradicted, and the Torah had many many, allmost all of which happened, is happening, and we have a couple left which will happen (building of third Temple, Davids decendents ruling again).

Yacov, as far as I have learned it was the other way around: the reclusive, monastic Essene sect was influenced by Jesus (and therefore recorded the Dead Sea Scrolls). I always learned Jesus and Paul were Pharisees, which was the "hardcore" Jewish denomination of the day.

Yes, exactly. That is why I said they were influenced by him. They couldn't have been influenced by him if they did not exist yet, and since they did not actually convert to Christianity, it was merely that--an influence.

I don't think Christendom started monasticism though. What about Elijah in the wilderness and the like?

But I think The Essenes already existed before Jesus.

They did. There is divided opinion as to whether Jesus was a card carrying member of that order but he was certainly influenced by them. John the baptist was almost certainly one. No way jesus was a pharisee, they were orthodox to the core.
