Title: Obamas Gonna Play 'Hardball' with Israel for Concessions
Post by: muman613 on March 04, 2013, 01:53:01 AM
This will not surprise anyone here, and it is exactly what I was suggesting in a thread a week ago concerning the possibility Obama would use Jonathan Pollards case as a bargaining chip... But it seems that some experts expect Obama to push the 'peace process' which will mean concessions of the Judea and Samaria territories and possibly Jerusalem...

It is looking grim that the Netanyahu government will put up any fight against Obamas plans...

The relationship between the U.S. and Israel, said Dr. Berk, “remains rock solid. There have been changes and tensions, but underneath it all most Americans appreciate that in the struggle in the Middle East, Israel is on the right side.”

He said that it is hard to predict what will happen to the relationship in the second Obama administration, noting that since Obama is not up for re-election and not beholden to any constituency, he may pressure Israel.

“For Israel the major issue is obviously Iran, and we’ll have to see,” said Dr. Berk. “President Obama has said he will not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon and the Israelis want to make sure that he remains attached to that commitment.”

On the issue of peace with the Palestinian Authority, he predicted that Obama will “lean heavily on the Israelis to make some sort of agreement with [PA Chairman Mahmoud] Abbas,” adding that Obama will have to make sure to address Israeli security concerns as part of such an agreement.

“What kind of guarantees can he give Israel? I don’t have the answer to that question,” admitted Dr. Berk.

As much as I love 'missile defense' as a technology I do not, nor do I hope that Israel, places its faith in a defensive system. It is morally wrong to have to protect yourself from constant attack. The only moral solution is to remove the attackers. No matter how good a missile defense system is, eventually the attacker will develop weapons which will foil the interceptors. Eventually the shield will have holes, and we will find ourselves once again at the mercy of our enemies.

It should be missile offense; not defense.

My parents are at the AIPAC meeting this year also.  They assume that it is pro-Israel..but it's more like Eric Cantor Pro Israel.
