Title: Criminalizing the opposition
Post by: Secularbeliever on July 17, 2007, 05:07:36 PM
I read not long ago that columnist Caroline Glick got married.  What was most interesting to me is the manner in which she met her new husband.  Nadia Matar had met him when he got her out of jail during one of her arrests.  She was impressed by his legal skills and upon finding that he was unmarried introduced him to her friend Caroline Glick.  It just struck me how heinously the Israelis have turned the opposition into a criminal class.  Caroline Glick is no Kahanist, no flame thrower.  She is a supporter of Nethanyahu.  Yes she is a strong critic of the government but she also served in Rabin's government.  That she now finds herself living in what seems to be an outcast clique, that her husband was introduced to her through someone's imprisonment just seems perverted to me.  People like her would normally be considered the elite of their society or at worse a prominent critic.  However, the government has pushed so hard to criminialize the opposition that she finds herself associating with the supposedly criminal class.
