Atheism is a form of belief, and sometimes it resembles a cult. I don't think adding an atheist chaplain is a change for the worse as there are already imams in uniform preaching terrorisms.

Unitarian Universalist "pastors" are often agnostic or atheist, so it seems that they would have more success trying to associate the chaplain with a "religion" like that.

I've noticed that atheists have moved way beyond just wanting to not be discriminated against and are now working to actively remove religion from all aspects of public life.

I can see a scenario in which these atheist chaplains get in and then they slowly work toward saying the need for other chaplains is nullified because everyone can get the same moral support from an atheist chaplain.

Who needs 'chaplains' to tell you what 'NOT' to believe in? Sounds ridiculous to me...
