In a tragic turn of events, it has been revealed that Colonel (Res.) Shraya (Yaya) Opher, murdered last night in his Jordan Valley home of Brosh, was killed on the same day as his brother, who died 40 years ago during the Yom Kippur War.
Major Yitzchak Opher, a pilot, was killed on October 11 1973, when his plane was shot down over the Golan Heights.
Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth quoted a senior officer who served with Shraya (Yaya) Opher saying that his fighter pilot brother's death had been a strong influence on his own military career.
Opher enjoyed a distinguished career in the IDF, serving as a Commander in the Givati Brigades, a commander of the Gaza Strip, and a founder of the elite Shaldag air force commando unit.
In the early hours of Friday morning, Opher was brutally murdered by two Palestinian Authority Arabs, who attacked him with axes and iron bars. His wife, Monique Omer, escaped with minor injuries as she fled the scene to call for help.
Five arrested
Security forces have arrested five Palestinian Authority Arab men on suspicion of carrying out the brutal attack. The five were all taken for interrogation by Israel's internal security forces (Shin Bet).
Wife speaks from hospital bed
Opher's wife Monique Omer spoke about her husband from her hospital bed in Afula Friday morning.
"Is there anyone who didn’t know Yaya Opher?" she said in tears, "A soldier for many years, Commander of the Gaza Strip, Givati and Shaldag (air force commandos)."
"How were they able to do that to Yaya?" she asked.
"A wonderful man, a wonderful father, wonderful grandfather, there are no words," she added. "There was no one who didn't love him who didn't connect to him," Monique wept.

Monique Opher reacted with shock and pain on the murder of her husband, a former army officer, who was killed by Palestinian Authority Arabs in the early hours of Friday morning.
Colonel (reserves) Yaya (Shraya) Opher was murdered by Palestinians who broke into their home in the Jordan Valley, bludgeoning him to death with axes and iron bars. Monique was injured as she crawled to safety picking up cuts from barbed wire on the way.
"Commander of the Gaza Strip, Givati Brigades and Shaldag (air force commandos) - how did they succeed in doing this to him?" Opher's wife wept from her bed in the Beit Haemek hospital in Afula.
"Is there anyone who didn't know Yaya?" she asked, "Is there anyone who didn’t know Yaya Opher?" Monique said in tears, "An army man for many years, Commander of the Gaza Strip, Givati and Shaldag (air force commandos)."
"How were they able to do that to Yaya?" she asked, "I don't know - they took him by surprise" she cried.
"A wonderful man, a wonderful father, wonderful grandfather, there are no words," she added. "There was no one who didn't love him who didn't connect to him," Monique wept.
The Head of the Yesha Council Friday morning condemned the attack, and blamed continued negotiations with the Palestinian Authority for the rise of terrorist attacks against Israelis.

I'm pleading with Israelis to demand that this cowardly Israeli government demand that Chaim Ben Pesach be allowed back in Israel to save Israel.
As Giulio Meotti said on how to defeat Palestinian terrorism.
-----------------------------------
Qalqilya is a strategic town 12 miles distant from Tel Aviv and less than five minutes from Kfar Saba. Qalqilya is not like more isolated Nablus (Shechem), it is shoulder to shoulder with the pre-1967 Israeli towns.
The city has been called the “Paradise Hotel”, because it was used by suicide terrorists as the jumping off point into Israel.
You don't become "the terrorists' hub", as Qalqilya has been named, without the complicity of the local population and infrastructures. The Palestinian Arabs aren’t hostages; they chose terrorism freely, they love killing Jews, so must live with the consequences.
Israel should also erase the houses of the terrorists, confiscate their properties and deport their families.
Terror is a collective punishment, Israel's answer to it must include collective punishment.
Israel should flatten entire neighborhoods of Qalqilya if its Arab residents destroy innocent Jewish lives as happened last week.
Israel should also erase the houses of the terrorists, confiscate their properties and deport their families.
This is what the Allies did during the war, when they didn't hesitate to impose a collective punishment on the German and Japanese people (Dresden was levelled), while today we like to believe that the State of Israel is facing "individual murderers" and unorganized "fanatics", and must pardon the Islamic society that nurtures them.
The Arab population of Judea, Samaria and Gaza living in the communities that spawn repeated terror is responsible for that Muslim terrorism. Collective punishment of that population by Israel - when administered in proportion to the evils it is meant to combat - is justified.
When terrorism is perpetrated against the Jewish people, it is justified to wage war against the population from which the terrorists emerged, and that sometimes includes harming civilians who did not actively participate in the terrorist acts themselves.
It doesn't mean the taking of human lives, but destroying properties and morally subjugating the environment that supports them. This is deterrence.
Protection of human life from barbaric terrorism comes before political correctness. This is what I would say to Israel's leaders if I were the father of Tomer Hazan or Daniel Yaakovi.

"Hardliner" against Islam---LIES.

The f&(%ing police and media now report that it was a "criminal" murder not motivated by national hatred. It seems some Arab robbers "accidently" bumped into the victim and his wife so they murdered him and injured his wife, while in fact their original intention was merely to loot their property.
