HaRav was right. He who is kind to the cruel is cruel to the kind. Now we will pay for this caveman's food, healthcare, college education, an hobbies for the next 20 or so years--unless of course he gets his ACLU friends to get his conviction altogether kicked. If the girl he murdered were black, does anyone really doubt that he would've gotten the death penalty?

Some jurors cannot impose the death penalty and look for excuses not to.  The death penalty would have been proper in this case; child murder/rape should be a strict liability death sentence crime with no insanity or diminished capacity defenses permitted.
