Title: Jewish related Documentaries You recommend and enjoyed
Post by: fibrogirl on November 21, 2013, 05:25:22 PM
We already have a thread about Jewish related films we enjoyed.

Has anyone seen any good Jewish related documentaries that they enjoyed?

I'll start the ball rolling with a documentary I found very moving.
It is called "Torn" קרוע in Hebrew and is about a Catholic Polish  priest who suddenly discovered that his parents were Jews who died in the Holocaust, when he was in his 40's. He then decided to be Jewish.
It was a bit strange because by that time he had got quite far up in the Catholic church hieracy. He even knew the Pope.

A DVD is available with a web search.
It sounds more depressing than it really is. In fact it was pretty fascinating to see a priest in snowy Poland suddenly go to live in one of the most Orthodox Kibbutzs in Israel and try to be Jewish.

Here's the trailer:

The whole documentary used to be available on youtube but someone took it off. I managed to put it on DVD because I was so captivated.

Meraglim, which is about the participation of the YESHA council in the Hitnatkut. How they sold out the Jews actually resisting the expulsion.
