I don't think it was a ploy, I think A & E realized they were going to loose money.

I agree with Ephraim. I dont watch TV, don't watch cable, don't watch duck dynasty...

But from what I read it was one of the most popular shows.... And if they lose their most popular show they will lose viewers, lose revenue...

It was a financial decision based on the fact that the fanbase is mostly red-blooded American citizens.

I don't watch TV either, but this, we started watching it a few months ago. A friend told me about it, and my whole family really enjoys it.
It kinda reminds of a modern day reality show version of Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, and a dash of The Dukes of Hazard.
