Title: Why is Likud called the National Liberal Party?

I have never been to there website but at the top it says "National Liberal Party". What does liberal mean in an Israeli context?

Probably has to do with the original name under Begin which was Herut.  Herut means freedom

It means Liberal as in Classical Liberalism. It's more similar to the Libertarian Party than Left Wing Liberal Democrats.

Likud's old name was Gachal which is rashei teivot for Gush Cherut Liberalim.
