My guess is that he didn't convert of his own free will.  I can't imagine enduring the kind of torture that some people endure before they lose their minds, their free will and then do whatever they are told in order to avoid further scream-inducing pain.

I hope his conversion was fake. He converted as a hostage so it is more then likely. It sickens me that Osamba calls him "Abdul Rahman".
