The correct think would be to let him go, then revoke his citizenship and confiscate whatever property of him he has on US soil. A person who joins an enemy group forfeits his status to reside and own property on the country he betrayed.

Absolutely!  If the United States were a country run with even a modicum of common sense, then as soon as someone was found out to be going to join ISIS, then they should be put to death immediately.  They want to kill us -- we'll kill them first!  What's to think about?
