I sometimes get confused when I see Prussia mentioned. Was Austria part of it?
Also, when they say Western and Eastern Europe, what were Germany, Austria, Poland and Prussia considered?
-
Thanks for the answer. I wasn't sure either.

All countries between Germany and Russia can be called Central Europe. geographic middle of continent is located near Lodz in Poland.
-
Prussia was part of modern day Poland. It was carved out of Germany to punish Germany for the war. Prussia had been the militarist part of Germany that unified Germany. Prussian militarism is what led to German nationalism and eventually to Nazism.
Poland is Eastern Europe. Germany is Western Europe. Austria is also Western Europe although they both could be considered Central Europe. Eastern Europe generally refers to the areas that were Communist during The Cold War. So the former East Germany could be considered to be in Eastern Europe.
Which war are you referencing? Prussia war around during the 19th century. How did Prussia cease to exist?
-
the land of Prussia was abolished by ocuping Alied authorities aftter 1945; the Polish provinces of Silesia, Grand-Poland, Pomern and Mazury-Warmia (former southern part of East Prussia) were tranfered under Polish adminsitration after WWII; hovewer germany accepted new borders only in 1990.

Hi JTF,
actually there is more one could say about Prussia.
Firstly it is true there is no Prussia anymore, but there are still a couple of regions in nowadays Germany, where people perceive themselfs as prussians. Roghly spoken these regions are in eastern and northern parts of Germany.
Secondly Prussia still is the name of the Hohenzollern dynasty that is considered the legitimate heir to the throne by many monarchists here in Germany. Besides Hohenzollern there is also Habsburg dynasty, but this one is actually the austrian heir to the throne.
Best regards,
Haiduk

Prussia was originally Slavic.
germans conquered it with their
well-(unfamous)-known "methods",

East Prussia was originally Baltic, once being inhabited mostly by Prussians (Pruzzen in German)

That's true it was originally Slavic. Do you know what type of Slavs were living there?

the Veleti, Pomeranians exept Kashebe and western part of Silezians; all part of Lechite tribes; so you can say that Prussians were germanised Pols, the names of their nobility such as von Krockow or von Manstein-Levinsky are proving the falacy of nordic-aryan nazi race theories about "the purity" of German volk blood;
See the suprisingly good article on WIKI about western slavs for details:

I don't understand this micro-nationalism of "Germanics" against "Slavonics".
I consider Slavs and Germans and Francs to be equal Europeans.
No Race theory about the superiority of one to another is valid.Period.
The true reason for this "nationalism" is to build bigger empires, as hitler waned to do,as the russians , as the English,...
now I think to join forces, an to respect all current borders between the nation-states is the best solution.
Unfortunately , this not really the case, e.g. Balkans, Northern-Ireland, ...
Anyway, all Slavs or Jews or Europeans are ok for me.
I respect all people , as long that they use their brains, and defend their identity, and believe in the good, and defend their respective belief in God.

The Land of the Veleti east of the River Elbe is today called Wendland. I think that means Land of the Veleti.
I have read, that the Veleti culure exististed until the 18th century. But then they have assimilated.

It hurts me :'(, but this is completely true.
But I think the time of the ancient regimes, before 1806, was the best time. Until then all went downstairs. :(
Perhaps you are right, that the lutherian theologie has something to do with this.
