Biden is totally nuts. He aims mainly at the companies Biontech Curevac and Moderna.
1. In the countries were this vaccines are needed they are not able to produce them.
2. This vaccines have to be cooled down very low. This countries can not ensure the cold chain.
3. This is very unfair. Curevac, Moderna and Biontech invested hundreds of millions if not billions in this. And now they loose all their money. The only country that will profit is CHINA because they are masters of the copy.
Imo Biden made this move to get India fully back into the QUADhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadrilateral_Security_Dialogue (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadrilateral_Security_Dialogue). Of cause he has messed up the relations with India before. 1. By supporting the farmer protests against the Modi gouvernment and recruiting even Rihanna and Greta Thunberg for this. It was a 100 % Demonrat backed operation. This backfired totally. 2. By threatening India with sanctions because they bought Russian weapons systems. 3. By supporting the Muslim minority in India.

Crazy and stupid move. IP protection is not why there aren't enough vaccine doses to go around. But it is the lifeblood of innovation in healthcare and preserves the profit motive that fueled a large and fast competition with massive investment by companies to solve a worldwide crisis. So like most progressive policies, it is the worst of both worlds. It won't solve the purported problem and won't make any more vaccines any faster, any time soon, but it will damage an unpopular industry and harm everyone's future and health by undercutting future investment in medical innovation.
