I see there was a guy who talked about a marijuana be unbanned. Now lets us make a poll should a prostituion be unbanned in other state and be same as in Nevada or Netherlands. Yes or NO and why not write your comments.
-
Murder is legal in Africa. Should we follow suit here?
-
No, it should remain illegal. Its demeaning, dangerous and gross and immoral for women...and what kind of guy needs to see a prostitute, losers.
-
It is a fundamental cause of moral destruction.

Lol. Is a prostitute different from a concubine?
-
I think the prostitute gets paid....the concubine just gets some smelly muslim for as long as he wants to use her.....id rather die than be either ;)
-

I think what he means is just any woman in general that fornicates...
-
Ahhh well getting paid for it is illegal and immoral, sleeping around is just immoral.
-
I mean it's obvious...no...
why?
1. Disease
and
2. Women aren't meat..they're people with souls to love and cherish.

Objection. You dont know where people meet with soul to love, for G-d made this world unpredictable and unexpectable. There was a cases when man married a prostitue. Read novel called a Magic Berrel.

So you believe prostitution should be legalized because of a novel you read?

no not only because of that becasue of the women and make free choices and it's people business wether they want to see a prostitute or not. In addition for a women if she want to be a prostitute or not that is her own choice. Novel i read has nothing to do what i belive it's just a simple example that you can find a soul mate even in thst situation
-
Should the law allow people to make a free choice to murder someone as well? Now I know you'll say "but prostitution is nowhere near as bad as murder"..
I say this:
Why give a woman the option to turn her body into a peace of meat? And why give a man the option to succumb to prostitution rather than find a woman he loves in a moral fashion? Both men and women destroy themselves and make the people around them suffer because of the many consequences entangled in prostitution.
-
It's immoral and disgusting. Only degenerates hire prostitutes and become one.
This evil is one of the world's oldest, but it has grew due to the declining degree of morality in the US.
-
Yes. It is demeaning to the poor women.
-
The real question should be...
Should they be allowed to accept VISA & MASTERCHARGE?

While many can argue the economical benefits and say that with prostitution legal, it would be "easier to regulate" etc...
I have come up with 10 reasons as to why it should NEVER be legal
1) It carries diseases (like cosmokramer mentioned)
2) Sexual immodesty only serves to make a nation suffer in the long run, as it violates sexual modesty/morality.
3) Sets a bad example for young boys who grow up degrading and abusing women, seeing no value in them except for sexu@l gratification.
4)Makes young girls accept being mistreated and takes away from their self worth.
5) After the damage to boys and girls, mental/mood problems may rise in a population (depression, anxiety etc...)
6) Is detrimental to a woman's spirituality and leads her to sin. Takes away from purity
7) Leads a man to sin as well and that can cause spiritual harm, Takes away from purity as well
8)Any person who supports it but does not engage in it is ALSO responsible for the sin since they were responsible for leading them to sin. (by voting pro, speaking for it ie...encouraging the situation)
9) End result is a more perverted sinful nation leading to an internal rotting of society from the inside
10) If G-d would have allowed it, we would not get the feeling that is is morally wrong. BUT we do feel it is bad, even when a man solicits and feels pleasure, he still feels sleazy and "hides it" (so do women in that situation) If it is so "good" why hide it! In my humble opinion, people hide it because they know in their guts, that is is wrong. Just like Adam and Eve knew they sined, so do people feel bad when they solicit or commit these acts, because it degrades the body and causes a soul to cry out in pain. See, while humans may act a certain way of selfishness, ignorance, evil inclination etc... the soul always knows when something is a sin or not.
Feminism is far worse than prostitution.

I'm not sure which side I come down on, there are lots of factors to take into consideration.
Since everyone seems to think the that it should remain illegal, I'm going to make the argument that it should be made LEGAL.
Free-market principle: adults with free wills should be able to make decisions as to which economic activities they want to engage in, as long as it does not do harm to other people. This assumes that the harm that it would do to "public morality" or "people's sense of decency" doesn't hold any ground, or that the harm to prostitutes (or people who become infected with sexually transmitted diseases) that results from it being illegal, grossly outweighs any harm to public morality.
If a woman owns her own body, the state should not violate her right to do whichever she pleases, as long as she is not harming other people in the process.
If prostitution were made legal, the business would be taken out of the hands of criminals, who might use the ill-gotten gains to further other criminal ends. It would also be a blow to any criminal organizations such as gangs or mafias that may control prostitution.
It would cut-down on the victimization of prostitutes because they wouldn't be taken advantage of by pimps. There would be no such thing as women being in prostitution against their will, because if the government was in charge of it, women could enter and leave the profession freely as they chose. No one could force them to stay in prostitution.
The proliferation of sexually transmitted diseases would be lowered because the government would regulate prostitutes and they would be checked for STDs and there would be specific regulations as to condom use, etc. that would cut down on the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. There would be little chance for the prostitutes to be abused, because if they were abused, their abuser would be able to be charged by the state. Currently, prostitutes fear going to the authorities about abuse because they are afraid that they will be arrested for doing so, so they are allowed to be abused with impunity.
Of course these arguments only work if the rates of the government regulated prostitutes would be the same as the illicit prostitution current-market rates or lower.
In summation, the spread of STDs, abuse of prostitutes with impunity, and the coercive ability of pimps to force their prostitutes to remain in the business would all be nearly eliminated.
Have you guys ever seen the reality show of the prostitutes in a Nevada brothel? They are well taken care of, they get paid well, they are not infested with diseases because they are regulated, and they are able to leave prostitution freely as they choose. I remember there was one lady who was getting paid well enough where she was going to leave prostitution and start her own business. Now compare that to the common street prostitute who is at the mercy of her pimp, is completely unregulated as to STDs, and who is sometimes forced at threat of herself or family members to stay in the prostitution business.

Afterall JTF is not Sleeps here. Thank you Jabotinsky that is an exellent point. We have a real wisomer here

I vote YES, to be legal b/c of people's right to decide about their own body, as Let-be-land states the right to privacy. But prostitution is a great disgrace to a human being. I think we all should take care of the economic and moral needs of prostitutes to help them to live with dignity and give up that undignifying "job". We must also take care of those men who seek a prostitute.
Sex without love is really sad. Sex involves one's soul, not only the body.
Let-be-land states that everyone must be not only free, but also given the opportunities to live with dignity. To develop his mind and soul with freedom and opportunities. And not only about his basic vital needs, but also to grow in goodness and knowledge.
Prostitution is absolutely against Letbelandic idea!!!!

I think prostitution should be unbanned..
here in Australia it is allowed but street prostitution is banned..
i think that people who are lonely should have some source of enjoyment if they cant get it from any other source....
-
I say yes.
1/ It has been in existance for ALL human history and will remain with us regardless of laws.
2/ It is a victimless 'crime' provided consenting adults are involved.
3/ It is a necessary evil. There are some men incapable by ugliness, personality or otherwise who will NEVER obtain sexual release by any other means. Do you want them at a legal brothel with a consenting adult or outside your daughters highschool?
4/ It is already legal in other forms......A female PR/Advertising account exec can sleep with clients to get business and it's legal. A mistress can sleep with a wealthy man in return for a nice apartment, expensive clothes and a generous allowance and it's fully legal. What's the difference between an advertising account, a Dior gown or cash?
Having said the above, it should be confined to specially zoned areas so those not seeking sex services are not solicited. There should also be most severe penalties for anybody exposing children to it or forcing people to participate.

Yes...one in a billion are like that...but I think I have a better chance dropping a penny from teh empire state building and landing on someone I know.

Pornography is WORSE than prostitiution.
hmmm...but is watching pornography worse than going to a prostitute?
-
Newman has a good point...some women will degrade themselves by dating a wealthy guy and letting him have is way with her as long as she gets something in return... So is that still a type of prostitution and for those who think it should be illegal, how do you regulate something like that?
Or what if you have a slutty girl?
Or a guy who has needs and has to go with that slutty girl?
I can say that most here agree that fornication before marriage although it is between consenting adults, is morally wrong. And Gd forbid our own daughters or sisters or best friends be caught in those situations, let alone ourselves as men.
HOwever, which is worse? Masturbating (pardon me) or random sex with sluts? (I figure 13 year olds know enough about this subject and we don't have 8 year olds on this forum).
Even though both of those are immoral and against Judaism and would have to take a real saint to not do it, Masturbation is much more a selfless crime than random sex with random people...
-

And it's totally legal, so what hypocracy in banning the upfront and open practice of it?

Yes.
In this day and age, young boys can and DO view XXX.
Children cannot hire prostitutes, however.
Do you know what happens to a young boy when he views porn for the first time?
I can assure you it is NOT good.
-
I definately think that prostitution should be banned completely, I also think that pornography should be banned.

Define young....if by young you mean prepubescent...I don't wanna know!
But for a teenager ready to climb out of his pants...in my opinion, it's perfectly normal to need to see a naked girl somehow..and a magazine is the safest way to go...
-
Here's the deal..you can't just make things like this suddenly illegal...I'm not talking about prostitution, but pornography... Pornography isn't a good thing...and what needs to be done is to clean up society so that it has no desire or a much lesser desire to want to go towards pornography...
However, i do believe that for the most part it prevents slightly evil things to be even more evil. However, I don't have a study or a reserach that can prove that.

Prostitution is illegal for good reasons. This is no job, like all others. The most prostitutes are mentally ill, have had abortions, take drugs or have sexually transmissible diseases. This way destroys people. God has banned it. There is no doubt in the bible. The natural order is the classic family. This is the only place, where future and life are for us. :)

I'm scared to know what happens to 7 or 8 year old boys who come across an XXX video with actual fornication and all that other adult jazz.

You should be scared...its not good.
This is an unprecedented problem in our society. Young boys are losing their innocence and becoming psychologically damaged because of porn.
This issue is HIGHLY underrated.

What types of problems does it cause young boys? I can see that in 7-8 year olds, that is much too young to watch pornography, I wasn't aware that kids were seeing it that early these days but I guess it doesn't surprise me considering all the sickos out there. If people are willing to have sex with children they are certainly willing to show them pornography. Showing kids that young pornography could be a way that demented perverts initiate their victims into sex and the kids that age are too young to realize what's really going on on the screen.
I don't think pornography is damaging for someone who's 13 or 14 though. If I didn't have porn when I was a young-un, I don't know what I would have done. I probably would have sought out lots of girls and I probably would have gotten in trouble somehow.
-

Yeah, well I said it didn't I?
If I didn't have pornography when I was around that age up to maybe age 17 and I didn't have that form of an outlet, I probably would have sought to have relations with girls and I could see how it would have gotten me into trouble somehow.

Porn: One person sexually stimulating themselves
The alternative? Fonication of the highest order. Were the pornography business to be regulated more, I would have no problem. Nudity is nothing to hide and taboo, it is natural

Porn: One person sexually stimulating themselves
The alternative? Fonication of the highest order. Were the pornography business to be regulated more, I would have no problem. Nudity is nothing to hide and taboo, it is natural
Nudity is natural but the type of sex that goes on in porn definitely isn't natural. It shows people that they can have easy relations with people like in porn, and it's no problem, but to be honest, I don't think that people need to get that from porn, I think they get that from their liberal sexual morality.
The idea that pornography turns everyone into sex crazed, sexually immoral people is false. There are plenty of people out there who watch pornography who don't have sex with random people and who cherish women, marriage, and the importance that sexual intercourse be with one who you love.
I think the evil that pornography creates is less than the evil it avoids. Think about what it would be like if there was no pornography. We would have lots of pent-up sickos prowling the streets and preying on young girls and children to fulfill their sexual fantasies. We would have more taking advantage of young women, more rapes, more date-rapes, etc. I would much rather have some 50 year old pervert watching a video with an 18 year old in it than prowling colleges looking to take advantage of a naive girl.
-

So eloquantly put!
-
The porn industry fuels sexual obsessions, without the porn industry, and all of the not-quite-porn that's around, people would not be so obsessed with sex.
Remove the porn, remove the semi-nude based adverts etc, society would be a lot better.
-
Prostitutes are filthy, mentally sick people and you should not want anything to do with them, that's like paying to sleep with an inmate from a lunatic asylum, not to mention that there's a multitude of diseases you could catch from them, the worst of which is AIDS, after that game over.
-
As for porn, stay away from the porn, and prostitutes; I'm not saying this for any moral reasons, I'm saying it for practical reasons; Without those outlets your motivation to go out and get into a legitimate relationship will go through the roof and instead of sitting on your lonely ass you will be motivated to go out and get a girlfriend, fiancee, etc.
-

You're wrong, a lot of them are forced into it, they're kidnapped, and taken to a brothel thousands of miles away, it's not their choice at all in many cases. You're right about the deseases though.

Porn is just another weakness that G-d wants us to overcome. Just we have to overcome not working on Shabbat, so too we have to overcome porn and a primal obsession with women.

Can you explain to me how young boys are traumatized by seeing adult porno at such young ages?
I can tell you that at the age of innocence..age of 3-5 years old, if littel boys and little girls grow up together, they WILL be curious about each others' private parts and do their little thing of showing it off...It's not clean, but it happens a lot. This isn't pornography though.
-

I agree with Zeev, but not 100%...The truth is, it depends on how easy it is for a young teenage boy to get girls versus the shyer ones with less self-esteem.
In as much as it isn't Kosher..i dont' think...it is normal.
And i hate to say this, but some married couples do use porno as a means of education and other things to spice up their sex life...even though that's not kosher either, it is done in the privacy of the home...

In as much as I agree, this isn't necessarily true.
However, you would agree that pornography and nudity today needs to be a little more regulated...I know that there is a happy medium of having just enough but not too much.
I would also have to say that when the population is not growing fast enough, pornography and sexual liberalism would be at an increase. However, if the population were growing too fast, the opposte would need to take place.

The same argument applies to prostitution.
It is better to have dirty old men fulfilling their needs in legal brothels with consenting adults than prowling the school zones or peeping in peoples windows.

School zone prowlers are sick enough to prowl whether there's a legal whore house or not.

I mean that if some ugly/ socially inadequate person has no release (in a legal brothel) they'll seek that release in the easiest way........ie: in school zones, colleges etc.
Some people satisfy hebophilic or pedophilic fantasies in brothels by having the prostitutes dress in school uniforms, little girl dresses etc. Sick/ perverted?.....Yes. However, do you want those people sating their lusts out in the real world?
-
I agree with Newman and Zeev on this; as Augustine said: Any good regulated city needs good severs and good brothels; even acording to Tanath they were whores in Judea and Israel some prophet even was commanded to marry one; all this arguments about stds; crime and women abuse; are even more on mark with illegal prostitution.
-

Exactly!
Legal brothels can be regulated to maintain health standards and keep crime figures out of the industry. Making prostitution illegal has NEVER illiminated it, just driven it underground into the hands of gangsters and corrupt officials. This is when STDs, criminality, drugs and abuse take hold.
