Seit sechs Jahren wurde Fatos Mehilli wegen Zuhälterei in Bozen gesucht. Am Montag klickten für den Albaner in Brescia die Handschellen. Er wurde im Jahr 2002 zu neun Jahren Gefängnis verurteilt.
Bereits vor mehreren Jahren hatte sich der 40-Jährige Fatos Mehilli der Begünstigung illegaler Einwanderungen, der Ausbeutung der Prostitution und der Versklavung schuldig gemacht.
In den Jahren 2001 und 2002 ermittelte die Polizei gegen eine Gruppe von Albanern, die Frauen aus Albanien und Osteuropa ausbeuteten und zur Prostitution auf den Bozner Straßen zwangen.
Im Laufe der Ermittlungen gab eine junge Albanerin Staatsanwalt Axel Bisignano präzise Informationen, die zu Haftbefehlen für vier Albaner führten. Zwei wurden verhaftet, die anderen zwei, darunter Mehilli, befanden sich zu dieser Zeit bereits wieder in Albanien. Vor Gericht wurden allerdings auch diese beiden Männer in Abwesenheit verurteilt.
Mehilli war insgesamt unter drei Decknamen bekannt, und agierte nicht nur in Bozen, sondern auch in Brescia, Florenz und Trient.
Unter anderem wird ihm vorgeworfen, eine junge Frau ca. zwölf Jahre lang in Griechenland und Italien zur Prostitution gezwungen zu haben.
