The left are exulting that Dorit Beinish has become Chief Justice, replacing fellow left-winger Aharon Barak.
Such was their fear of a Kahane with 12 Knesset seats, that rabid leftist lawyer Dorit Beinish and then "right-wing" lawyer Young Likud Prince Ehud Olmert colluded together to have him ousted from the 1988 elections.
From "Viewpoint" in the February 1989 Kahane magazine:
"Dorit Beinish, assistant State Attorney in the Ministry of Justice, has long been one of the most dangerous Hellenists
within the Ministry. A total product of western anti-Jewish culture, it was she who led the struggle to convict and sentence to jail the heroes of the so-called Jewish Underground, and her hostility to the settlers, religious groups and Jewish values has long been so bitter and unguarded that the former Minister of Justice, Avraham Sharir, refused to appoint her as State Attorney when the position became vacant.
In a funk, Beinish announced that she was taking "leave" and for a week the leftist news media of Israel went on an orchestrated campaign of outrage, demanding that the Hellenist
be appointed. Their main demand was that "politics and ideology should not enter into this," a thing that won for them Time Magazine's chutzpah of the year award.
It so happened, however, that just at that time, the appeal by Kach from its banning by the Knesset Elections Committee was due to be heard by the High Court, and not even Beinish's anger could overcome her sheer hatred for Kahane and all the Judaism he represented. She came back to personally take the case and won undying infamy and shame for her companson of Kahane's (and, by extension, Torah) laws to those of Nazi Nuremberg. Indeed, the most moving and unforgettable moment of the hearing was when Kahane
spoke and turning to Beinish, said: "Everything that I said are the word- of the great-grandfather of the State Attorney. He turns in his grave to hear her."
Former Justice Minister Sharir refused to appoint Beinish as State Attorney, fearing her power and what she would do to prosecute and persecute the good Jews she hated and reviled. But the new Justice Minister, in his first step upon taking
office, announced that he was indeed appointing the leftist as State Attorney. He promptly won an unprecedented shower of compliments from the leftist news media."
