Zaytuna College (Muslim school in Calif.)The first accredited Muslim college in America is based in Berkeley, California. Founded in 2009, Zaytuna College was established following a several-years-long pilot seminary program. With the motto "Where Islam meets America," the school has the goal of cultivating U.S.-born Islamic scholars. Founder Imam Zaid Shakir told VOA News: "We want to manifest Islam in a way that's compatible with America."
Jan Markell is founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, which is based in Minnesota. Markell says the new college is unfortunately symptomatic of a nation drowning in political correctness.
"And it will kill America," she emphasizes. "But as long as the left controls all of the media -- except for Fox News and talk radio and some Internet sites -- this kind of evil will continue to prosper...particularly in light of this current pro-Islamic administration."
Jan MarkellThe ministry leader argues that Islam's teachings are in no way compatible with the foundations that made America great.
"I'm sorry, but any religion that has part of their duty to fly airplanes into buildings filled with innocent people is sick," states Markell. "...[T]his is a sick belief system and what these folks really need is the Lord Jesus Christ. That's the only thing that's going to turn them around."
Markell says it is fortunate that a growing number of former Muslims have accepted the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
