A 16-year-old girl in Bangladesh was who raped 8 months ago has received 101 lashes as punishment for becoming pregnant as a result of the attack, says the Bangladesh Daily Star. Worse still, the paper reports, authorities have not punished the alleged rapist.

Village elders have issued the fatwa, a religious decree, against the girl, and also levied a fine against the girl's father, threatening to force the family into isolation if he didn't pay.

According to reports in the Telegraph, the girl was so ashamed that she did not make an official report about the attack.

Human rights workers say that the family married the girl off shortly after the attack, but that her husband divorced her soon after discovering she was pregnant. She told reporters that the rape had "spoiled" her life.

"I want justice," she said.
