Update on the Iraqi Army's Jewish Treasure Trove
« on: November 20, 2013, 03:01:20 AM »
We discussed this over Shabbat lunch last Saturday... The American military saved a virtual treasure trove of Jewish artifacts from an Iraqi intelligence office during the Iraq war, it contained Torah scrolls, siddur (prayer books), Shabbat candle holders, Menorahs, the Talmud, Tefillin, etc... Now the American government is preparing to return this loot to the Iraqi government. Everyone at Shabbat agreed that the items should be given to the Iraqi Jewish community rather than the government, because they will mistreat it once again.

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities
Duet 16:13-14
