23 people, including children and babies, suffered light injuries in a fire that broke out on Sunday evening in an eight-storey residential building in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Givat Mordechai.

Magen David Adom paramedics who were called to the scene evacuated the victims to the Shaare Tzedek Hospital and the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.

Six teams of firefighters who were called to the scene were able to put out the fire and ventilate the building.

A spokesman for Jerusalem firefighting services said that there may have been an explosion before the fire, but that is still under investigation.
