Conservative Leaders Demand Traitorous RINO Republicans Keep Their Promise to Repeal Obamacare

During a conference call on Wednesday, conservative leaders from the Club for Growth, Family Research Council, Tea Party Patriots, ForAmerica, FreedomWorks, and Senate Conservatives fund demanded that the “traitorous” Republican senators who refused to vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) keep their promise to the American people.

“Traitorous senators…they need to repeal Obamacare,” said Tea Party Patriots Co-founder Jenny Beth Martin. “Our activists also realize that it seems to be really easy for these senators and their staff to sit in Washington and be exempt from Obamacare…it is completely unjust to live exempt from the law, while others suffer because of the law.”

The conservative leaders were referring to Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, and Sen. Susan Collins of Maine. Sen. Collins was the only Republican senator to vote against repealing Obamacare in 2015.

ForAmerica Chairman Brent Bozell discussed how the pledge to repeal Obamacare was made more often than any other promise:

“My guess is that Republicans in Congress have pledged to repeal Obamacare well over a million times in the past 8 years.”

“If they don’t deliver, absolutely guaranteed, they’ll be thrown out of the majority. Absolutely guaranteed.”

Club for Growth President David McIntosh echoed that sentiment, saying: “I agree with the folks who said this is one of those watershed votes that will have repercussions for the three Republicans senators for years to come.”

McIntosh also praised the current efforts of President Donald Trump to make progress on the issue of health care reform:

“The President has shown great leadership with the lunch today and had it exactly right: Republicans have to get this repeal of Obamacare done…a vote against moving forward with the repeal bill is a vote saying, ‘I want Obamacare.’”

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins agreed with Bozell regarding the consequences of failing to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), arguing that “there is no reason not to act…all the members will suffer, the Republican majority will suffer, as well. We urge the senators to move forward with the repeal bill that was passed in 2015.”

Throughout the conference call, conservative leaders referenced the 2015 Obamacare repeal bill passed by Senate Republicans. The bill was voted for by all current Republican senators, except Collins.

“If any bill gets to President Trump, he’s gonna sign it…all they have to do pass the bill they passed in 2015. It should be a lay-up,” argued Ken Cuccinelli, president of the Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF).

“These Senators now saying they cannot vote for that bill, with the exception of Susan Collins, voted for it 18 months ago. What’s changed?” asked Jenny Beth Martin.

ForAmerica’s president, David Bozell, criticized the “liberal Republicans” refusing to vote for an Obamacare repeal, stating that “they’re being exposed as frauds.” “If the American people had the slightest appetite for these liberals, John Kasich would be President right now,” he added.

Vice President of Legislative Affairs for FreedomWorks Jason Pye focused on the problems he saw with leaving Obamacare in place, arguing that it should be repealed now and replaced later.

“We can discuss replacement later, but this law has, we’ve seen premiums increase…five states are down to one insurer in the marketplace, dozens of countries are down to zero insurers in the market place,” Pye said. “Lower premiums promote individual choice and give taxpayers relief from Obamacare.”

Pye also announced that FreedomWorks would be giving out a new award as a response to Republicans’ failure to repeal the ACA, called the “Freedom Traitors Award.” He said it would be delivered, along with busts of Benedict Arnold (an American general who defected to the British army in the War for Independence) to the offices of “Senators who refuse to vote for the repeal.”

Former Virginia Attorney General and Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) President Ken Cuccinelli concluded the call by issuing a challenge to those Republicans unwillingness to repeal Obamacare:

“This has been the number one issue for conservative grass roots for seven years and then some…this is a vote a whole election can turn on. If we can recruit good conservative challengers to these Obamacare Republicans, we will challenge them.”

“We make an effort to recruit those [strong conservative challengers] and we will be targeting areas with Obamacare Republicans.”
