Suggestions for a Friend. (please Reply)

have a good friend of whom I have known when we were little. We grew up together and eventually went different ways. He moved, then I went to Yeshiva and he stayed in public school. I recently started hanging out with him and we talked about religion.  He loves his religion, is convinced 100% but unfortunatly didnt have the chance to learn Hebrew or any laws (but knows some).
 He agreed to try his best in what I will suggest to him, but told me he cant promise, but will try his best and for me not to be harsh on him. I wrote this for now - let me know if its good, or if I should replace something, and any suggestions. (hes not on the forum by the way).

" Prayers – With All the Luck and Great Success.

1)Right after Waking up say
         
      MoDe Ani LefAh-Neha. Meleh Hi Vikayam Shehezarte Bi Nishmati Behemla Rabbah Emunateha.

I am thankful to you, living and everlasting King. That You returned to me my soul with compassion. Great is your faithfullness.

2)Go to bath room and wash, etc.

      3) Then put on Tallit ( the big White garment and say – if you are wearing Tzitzit under your shirt it also counts for that)

Baruch Ata Adon-oy Eloh-ayno Meleh Haolam , Asher Kiddishanu Bemitzvotav Vitzi vano Lehitatef Betzitzit.

4) Then put on Tefillin and when putting on the hand Tefillin (while sitting) say

Baruch Ata Adon-oy Eloh-ayno Meleh Haolam , Asher Kiddishanu Bemitzvotav Vitzi vano Lehaneeah Tefillin.
 Contine putting on the Tefillin all the way then Put on the Head Tefillin. (and also do the fingers the right way. (I belive you told me that you put it on before- if not give me a call and ill tell you, or show you how to exactly).

5)THE SHEMA

Right hand over your eyes Say
 SHEMA Yisrael Adon-oyy Elo-Hayno , Adono-oyy EHAAAD.

(sinently)- Baruch Shem Kavod Malhuta leolam vaed.


  Also Remember to Keep Shabbat. - The most important thing.

A couple things:

First, what nusach do you daven in and whose pronunciations do you use?

Second, it's more important that he says Shemonei Esrei than Shema, but I don't know if it's too long for him (obviously, in an ideal situation he'd be able to say both but I don't know how much time he has.)

Third, you left out the Washing the hands and then Baruch... al netilat yadayim, and after going to the bathroom you left out Asher Yatzar.

Thanx for the reply. The problem is that He cant read in Hebrew - so I have to write it down in English- threw the Hebrew. As I know Shema is more important then Shemono Esrei ( Shema- From Torah, Shemono Esrei- Rabbinic (but obviously important).

Im Bukharian- So Sefardi- so is he.

I said those few few things and  Shab-Batt, as bigginng bc dont want to overwealm him, but will (with G-d's) help build up on it.

Is their a Siddur with English Translation? (the type that has prouncing in Hebrew words?) . Also can one who doesnt yet know Hebrew pray completly (expecially the Brahot) in English? - I belive things like Tehillim are allowed but are prayers with G-d's name allowed?

I do know how to read Hebrew, but if i'm reading a prayer for the first time i make sure i pronounce it outloud so i know what it sounds like.as i do it everyday, it comes out automatically..

You got me in the mood now to wear t'fillan tomorrow morning...ah!

There is only one Sephardic siddur in the transliteration of Hebrew, at least that I know of. If it was translation only, I would recommend Orot, but since you want transliteration... here you go. I own it myself. It's Syrian Nusah, VERY beautiful binding, and makes a great gift. The only thing is that it won't be loaded up with so many ArtScroll-style directives like Orot has.

I find that even to say any tefilla at regular speed when reading from the transliterated Hebrew is still not an easy task, and he must hear the prayers for himself once.

Yes, I agree with Vito.  You should tell him to first keep the Sabbath and in a few months after he keeps that for while then tell him to eat Kosher and he should slowly work on that.  That's the way to do it.  The She'ma comes afterwards.  You got to only encourage him to work on one thing at a time and slowly or he will be overwhelmed.

Shabb- ath is like the most important thing. It it hard- yes, but its what makes a Jew, Jewish. + if you accomplish the thing that is harder then others then everything else will follow easily - you have to have the will, and you CAN do it. If you go only the other way then its doing what is convenient and not necessarily becuase its G-d's will.

Once i found a Jew by chance, He was not observant. I printed the Modeh Any and the Shema for him from my siddur ( I have one since I was aming to convert). I also gave him the times of the Shabat candles for his wife, and a little explanation about Hanukah. I also recommended him to say Baruch Hamavdil bein Kodesh Lechol on Saturday nights untill he could learn to do the proper Havdalah

I'd never heard of a transliterated Sephardi Siddur.  The only one I've heard of is Artscroll's Transliterated Siddur, which to my knowledge is only in Nusach Ashkenaz (but it may be in Sephard as well).
