Poor South Africans double in decade!

There are more losers in post-apartheid South Africa
 

The number of South Africans living on less than $1 a day has more than doubled in a decade since shortly after the end of apartheid.

The South African Institute of Race Relations survey said 4.2m people were living on $1 a day in 2005.

This is up from 1.9m in 1996, two years after the first all-race elections.

"Poverty has increased both in absolute numbers and proportionally," SAIRR said in a statement, blaming the rise on unemployment and HIV/Aids.


Despite good economic growth in recent years, unemployment has remained consistently high at about 26%.

SAIRR says poverty is also increasing among the white population while inequality was growing among the black population.

The government plan to halve poverty and unemployment by 2014 was ambitious, said SAIRR.

"It is going to take a long time to get rid of the poverty," said researcher Marius Roodt.

The governing African National Congress chooses a possible successor to President Thabo Mbeki in December, with trade unions backing the former deputy president Jacob Zuma

South Africa has failed to create enough jobs

He has criticised Mr Mbeki's government for not doing more to reduce poverty.

A government-backed report on unemployment released last month warned that a reliance on growth alone will not achieve the target of halving joblessness by 2014.

It also concluded that even if the government did meet this target, it would not go very far to relieving poverty.

The most likely areas of job growth are in domestic service, restaurants and the informal sector - none of which are well paid.

As the author of the Accelerated & Shared Growth Initiative for SA report, Miriam Altman, put it: "Poverty is something that we are likely to see in South Africa for many generations."

Yes - I saw a show on South Africa post - apartheid.    Unbelievable...there was no elevator in a once beautiful highrise because it was being used as a garbage shoot.  They can't distinguish the garbage shoot from an elevator shaft - how can they be prosperous at anything!

This is true! This should be a good learning curve for the white Americans....... what has happened in Southern Africa. There are very few States in The United States that are majority white. Look at South Africa and see America's future under colored rule, which is not that far off if the people don't wake up.  America has it's share of traitorous white scum in government, just like South Africa had. Britain is already a third world cesspool haven for rapists, pedophiles and terrorists with it's politically correct bunch of thieving lying scum in government, lining theirs and the royals bank accounts to the hilt. The New World Order has arrived, and God help civilization as we know it, the white race is going to be turned into a cauldron of brain dead zombies who rely totally on the "elite" scum who lord over us all everyday.

Here in fact, had been one of the last bastions of sanity still surviving in Sub-Saharan Africa and where poverty was hardly heard of. A good or bad thing? Well, we have been judged as wrong in a sane world at large... wonder why? We just have to agree that Ian Douglas Smith as being one of the Greatest Africans of all time!! Baer, "The Aquarian Conspiracy" - Marilyn Ferguson, or "The Secret Teachings of All Ages" by M. P. Hall

The fact of the matter, with respect to South Africa, as one JTF poster stated that he’d like to see a factually presented study of the before and after apartheid and which system was actually better.  Of course this goes with many other African nations: Nigeria, Congo, Rwanda, Zimbabwe etc.

In my personal opinion, with the years of “foreign aid”, “humanitarian relief”, Christian missionary work/ proselytizing and supposed military intervention within all areas of the African continent leading to naught one must truly question.  Adding further the continual studies on race, culture and further “humanities” one must stop with all of this “politically correct” rubbish and face the facts of life.

I feel the West must pull out entirely of Africa, cut off all international doling and allow Africa its right to self determination.  Many Nations and peoples in the past have petitioned their right to self determination without international obstruction.  Africa has continually been a dismal failure since Rhodes…or even David Livingstone’s mid 1800’s meeting with H.M. Stanley which gave rise to the popular quotation, "Dr Livingstone, I presume?"   

There are reasons why some peoples advance and others have not.  Africa has been a burden to the world without end in sight, aside of its resources discovered and developed by ol-whitey.  Perhaps the continent could be quarantined and left to self determination for a specified period of 100 years.  After which other groups of “Rhodes” can enter.  I’ll bet they will be introduced to the Earths finest Natural Wild Life Reserve totally void of human life…..

I’m very cynical when it comes to Africa and/or the advancement of our “urban” communities as all the evidence, without exception dictates otherwise no matter how much money one throws at the problem….
